Hi im new to this. I got my boys first read today. 75 after a small 2oz wet meal.
When should reading be done? Is this normal?

75 is in the "normal BG" range :), but interpreting what it means depends on the context.

Was this on a pet meter, or a meter made for humans?

Did you shoot insulin today? If so, what kind/dose, and how long ago was it?

hi. I did not even start insulin yet. He was diagnosed three days ago and i just got the machine in the mail and did first test. It is a pet meter

Aha!

75 on a pet meter with no insulin? I'm glad you started testing before insulin! That's not just a "normal" number, it's low-normal. You definitely do not want to start shooting insulin if he's hanging out in numbers like that.

It sounds like there's a chance that your kitty is not actually diabetic or, if you have changed the diet, might be one of the lucky diet-controlled ones. How was he diagnosed?

ok. He was tested on monday. Test came back Tuesday and they called and said he was diabetic. They did not give me numbers. I rushed around getting a meter, lancets, blood strips, urine strips and immediately took away his dry food and gave him wet food to make up for dry. Ive always given him combo. I researched and joined here and it helped me greatly. I was freaking out a bit and just wanted to get him insulin so bad! But I realized no...i need to check his levels PROPERLY. So after poking both cats for practice and feeling so frustrated with my very patient boy (im so proud of him) i got a read. 75. I guess what I need to find out is if they did a fructosimine test that shows his levels for weeks vs just a regular blood test. Ive heard his glucose could shoot up due to stress. He was very stressed at vet! Even pooped and peed in fear. If that’s the case my glucose must have went up too loll!
***update just tested him now...6 hours from original and first test. He is 90.

You seriously just might have saved your boys life today....
Well done with the testing and diet changes. That's awesome!!!

Thank you!!! Better to be very safe. just tested him this mornin and he is at 320. So he went from 90-320 overnight

Im feeding him the nutro pate split packs. From what I read the salmon, turkey and chicken pate have low carbs.
I did leave him half cup of dry food (tiki cat born carnivore) i heard its low in carbs. Maybe I should take it away?
320 shocked me. Is that an emergency?

No not an emergency, better high for a day than low for a minute.
But the dry food isn't low carb..
