Daisy is about to turn 20. She has been OTJ for several years.
Our current issue is that she is very thin and has lost a lot of muscle mass.

We’re doing everything our vet has advised including subcutaneous fluids and digestive enzymes, and we’re feeding her all she’ll eat at numerous daily feedings. We’ve picked the highest calorie options that are low carb.

All the senior cat weight supplements that we’ve found are sugary. Any suggestions?

My Kitty Ravan will be 19 in June. He has Diabetes & kidney disease. He has also lost weight & muscle in his hind quarters. I feed him 24/7 . There always a plate of food available, but he doesn't gain weight. He eats mainly a raw meat diet ,Sardines once every few weeks & canned food.
I think it's just an old age thing with some cats.

I also had a cat named Daisy. When she was 20 her front foot started spotting blood. Vet told me she had cancer in 2 toes! I was scared she would not make it thru surgery, but she did just fine.
Daisy lived 4 more years to 24. She never lost weight or muscle. Genetics?

What about raw?
My worry with raw is that it is already a dance to get her to eat some days. We put the plate down, pick it up, try again in a little while. It seems like raw would carry a greater risk of bacterial contamination if not eaten right away. Have you found that to be true?

But - if anyone has found raw to be a remedy to elder cat weight loss, we’re willing to try!

I read a veterinary study that indicated that it is probably genetic. Some cats lose their ability to absorb nutrition from their food as they age. Digestive enzymes and probiotics have helped our Daisy a little bit, but she still looks neglected and fragile!

Well, my cat gained 3 kilos from me not paying attention to fat content and amounts of food
Mine come running when they know I have food for them. You can leave it out for up to 12 hours and then a new portion. You can also serve it frozen. Just make sure you serve it on a clean dish every time, not refilling the old one. :D

Do you prepare your own or use a commercial raw diet?
