18/3 Mauer AMPS 144, +3 155, +4.5 122, +6 108, PMPS 122

Totally! Now she just needs to behave, so my last 95 strips holds the rest of the month :D:p
And now I've said it out loud she probably won't
haha, 8 stripes a day... you test more than that when she is bouncing :D i think you should stock up :D

I'm an addict to testing :rolleyes::nailbiting:
I'm trying to think "is this test necessary?" I always end at the decision that it is!
These last two months I'm using 100 more strips than usual
))))))))))) i know exactly what you mean, every time i hear in my head a voice that if i won't test now and he goes under 50 and we intervene too late i won't be able to forgive myself :D:D today in the morning i tested a 52 (2.9) and i bit myself up for not taking a +1 :D i am trying to test less when possible just because i don't want to turn Chico's kindness ( :D) for letting us test around

Exactly! How is the pricing on your testing gear?

Its abt 11euro for 50 strips, all in all the testing is the most expensive part with Chico’s diabetes, even considering the vet :D we didn’t research much if there is a cheaper glucometer, we just bought the first that was in the pharmacy near by and it is convenient in case we need to buy strips in 1-2 days.
What abt you?

:eek::eek: but we have to consider as well that Czech republic has different category of salary, respectively prices :D let's compare the Mcdonalds Big Mac price (i heard it's a real price comparison indicator :D ) to see how far off the stripes are ))) in Czech Republic it's abt 3.3 Euro

Correction, without the taxes I'd get the full amount of 2555 Euros with me, if I moved out of the country. This is stupid....why I'm I living here?!?!?!

Self-pity that's me today.
Now I'll eat some Buenos and resist the urge to test Mauer
I need some kind of guidance to reduce my testing, I think...

haha, when we moved here 12 years ago half a liter of beer in a pub costed 1 euro :D now the prices went "crazy high" and is about 2 euros (in the times when pubs were a thing).
With 1748 euros you can have very decent level of life here :D

Looks like Mauer is bouncing today, when we have a calmer cycle we have a rule to test at +2, +4 and +6 and we feed him at those times as well. We start redefining what a calm cycle is as well :D when we see he doesn't dive we (mainly my husband pushes me to) try to let him surf without us bothering him too much. It doesn't look like we bother him too much when he jumps on the table when he hears the microwave (we heat his rice sock there) :D

with that in mind I would say if testing makes you feel calmer and Mauer doesn't mind i don't see a reason why reduce testing :D

I don't get that chart
I believe it is. I can't get a libre either, even if I wanted to. The prices is ridiculously high because human diabetics gets support from the government.
i guess you would have to pay the taxes anyway here or there o_Oo_O
Is your taxes 39%? :p
Where did you move from?

Mauer doesn't mind being tested, but financially I need to save a bit. She's insured, the first 140-ish euros I pay every 125 days, then I get 80% back. Even then, yours is cheaper :arghh:
She's costing me a food budget for a single person in a month!!!! Just in her supplies. Then comes litter, food canned and raw, dog food, insurance for both cats, the dog and the rabbit. Hay, woodpellets. Expensive pets I tell you!!!!!

I know I said I wouldn't test, then she vomited fluids... no bounce here :D
The Lev is just kicking in now..

Since January Czech republic decreased the taxes so now i pay abt 20% "only" :D which is about 10% less than what we used to pay before new year, only that our Chico was diagnosed with diabetes in January so all of our surplus money are long gone ))

Where did you move from?
Republic of Moldova, beer there is still Euro, of course salaries are corresponding as well :D

Ohh but come on, you have a full house of adorable pets: 2 cats a dog and a rabbit, that sounds very cool :) but i know what you mean, and the stripes are the most expensive in the entire process and we don't even have Chico insured so it was all a bit of a surprise to us :D

Did you check for other glucometers? maybe there are other that have cheaper stripes

Yeah, these are the cheapest for the biggest amount :p

So sorry she vomited :( why do you have to give her pain killers?
She's limping. Has been for the past year or so, but since yesterday it's gotten worse. So just gave her some meds to see if it helps. It usually does. And she's fat...really fat, so jumping down of things is hard on her joints and so :arghh:

67 Euro the cheapest? o_Oo_Oo_O Denmark is really more expensive than Czech :D

Ohh, i am so sorry she is in pain :( Do you think her limping is related to the weight? Is it her that was underweight and then went quickly after switching to raw to overweight?

Really really expensive!
Yeah, she went from 6.5kg and overweight to 5.2kg at diagnosis.... then to 8.......

8 kg! Sounds like somebody need to go on the Catkins diet! I used a scale regularly with Neko. I told her she wasn't allowed to get as high as 6.8 kg, so I would portion her food (raw) to effect. She had acromegaly, which meant both excess growth hormone and bad arthritis, so I really had to keep an eye on her weight. Vet didn't want her below 5.9 and most of the time she was in the low 6 range.

Need help learning how to test less? Strips were outrageous in Canada, so I tended to cross border shop - back in the day when you could do that. I had to plan quite a bit in advance. When I debated testing, I would ask myself "what would I do differently with that information?". Often that meant putting the test kit back down. Even time Mauer's +3 or +4 is higher than preshot, looks like you can take a break the rest of the cycle.

I'm weighing her once a week........ still she gained half a kilo. She's getting 50g of raw in total.... it makes NO sense that she hasn't lost more. I've been doing this in 6 months, and her total weight loss os 270 GRAMS. No you're not reading it wrong. That's why I wanted her checked for cushings, since she was difficult to regulate on prozinc....
I'm thinking I need help to figure out calories, even though I'm pretty sure she's not having too much. She gets teaspoons of canned food during her AM cycle, PM free access but.... important note, she doesn't move after it, so unless I bring the food she doesn't care, soooooo it's a choice between weight and a potential hypo.... I choose the weight.
And I have the vet's approval for her to loose 100grams a week, since she's THAT fat.
Her ideal weight is 5.5.......

I don't think of Cushings as a condition where they are obviously gaining weight, though they do get a pot belly.

well, if pot belly is like having swallowed a big balloon.... we're there..
But she's not hard to regulate on Lev.

I've been thinking, if she doesn't loose weight it's not fair to her. She skin is not breaking, she snores, breathe heavily, have an usually short tale compared to Miver, who is her biological brother from another litter, different father. Dandruff and a lot of it, and it's not getting better or improving with her numbers.

i know it might sound a simplistic solution but maybe weighting her food would help you figure out exactly how much she eats a day and if it is obviously little for her weight than you know to search the cause somewhere else. We bought a scale for Chico's food because we wanted to know how much we are feeding him, in order to make sure we don't overfeed him. Now we know that if he loses weight we have to add food, if he stays the same we can keep the amount...

Pot belly and snoring can be acro symptoms. Neko never snored nor had much of a pot belly though. ECID. My non diabetic cat did both. Former feral, he ate everything in sight at the shelter - where he was for 6 years. Took me a while to get his weight down.

Have you tried adding drops of fish oil for the dandruff?

And yet, she's not hard to regulate. Or a high dose kitty...
Darn 6 years is a lot! But Mauer is the opposite, she doesn't eat everything, not obsessed with food. An autofeeder wouldn't work for example, she wouldn't seek the food. After her PMPS, I make food for the night, she goes directly to the bathroom. When the food is done I have to go pick her up, to show her the food is there. She eats a bit, goes back to the bathroom... when I wake up, she's still in the bathroom and getting no food, unless I bring it to her.... :banghead:

The raw comes in 25g small balls. Then there's the canned food, she gets teaspoons during the day. At PMPS I make a bowl with a bag of 85g, two tablespoons and a heck of a lot of water.... and she doesn't eat that much of it...

let's say you give her 1 raw ball of 25g + let's say 4 teaspoons x 5g each+ 85g + 2 tablespoons x 10g (this is a guess)= 150g a day. If this is what you feed an 8kg cat than this is too little for her to maintain 8kg without losing weight. Chico is 5.7kg and we give him 175g raw food per day. Canned foods recommend for his weight from 230 - 280g depending on their caloric intake.

The amounts of raw bags and teaspoons might not be correct but you get the idea

Well, I fed 150g of raw - as recommended. And it said BOOOM!
