Ketones - Further assistance needed please!!

I’m going to do a +5 tonight but his +2 is 452. This is insane. What am I doing wrong? At the vet tonight he did get cerenia, an antibiotic shot, and ear antibiotics (one time drops don’t know the name)... I’ll update his chart in 3 hrs but I’m kind of freaking out at the moment.

Don’t freak out. It’s not unusual for the BGs to be a bit all over the place in the beginning.
Getting a +5 is fine.
I’m glad you how the cerenia. Was it just a shot or some tablets?

He got an injection, he won’t let me touch his mouth. Not sure what happened in his past but it’s a complete no go there. His +5 last night was significantly lower than the +2. His AMPS was better this morning but his ketones are higher again. Possibly because he rose so high last night before the insulin kicked in? He was seen for many hours at the vet yesterday and she didn’t see any reason to give him an IV for them or anything at this time but I’m getting discouraged. Do I just persist on and see how today looks?

Ok, his +5 this afternoon was beautiful. His ketones were dropping, then bam, Vetsulin wears off and he’s sky high again and his ketones go up... What do I do next please? I need to figure something out and get him off this particular insulin safely. I feel like his AMPS and PMPS are almost false readings because the Vetsulin has worn off. It’s like my +5 morning and night are the only truly insulin driven numbers. My vet wants me to go up in dosage but Id prefer suggestions here please.

I only have the negative urine result from when he was at the vet on Friday, it’s been added. She said there’s glucose in the urine but no ketones. I’ve added his +5 from tonight that I did just now. Not as much as a drop as last night so I expect his AMPS will again be higher. I don’t want his ketones to go up, and I’m willing to change Vetsulin dosing if it’s best, I just feel like it might be chasing down a rabbit hole for results I’ll never see. I was very happy by yesterday’s glucose at +5 in the afternoon, but the huge drops he did between +2 and +5 last night (not tonight) can’t have felt particularly good. I’m concerned about Sunday’s AMPS and ketones to be honest. I’ll update after I do them. I’ll watch this space for any further commenting. Thanks, I will literally do whatever is best for him... I’m just at a loss as to what that may be.

Did the urine ketone test strips arrive on Wednesday as expected?
Can you tell me the name of the flood ketone meter you have please?
Does the meter you have, have paperwork with it and say what the ranges are for ketones?

They did but I haven’t been able to get my hand under him and I’m not allowed to drive in the weather today so I can’t get a spoon or something to try and collect it if he’ll allow me to. Any other suggestions would be welcome, he does bury his urine.

Keto-Mojo GK+ is the meter

The only ranges they provide are for the control solution when used. What other information should I look for?

I used to have a very small plastic cup handy on a table or ledge next to the litter box. I would be at the ready and wait quietly until my kitty started peeing and then get up and put the cup in his urine stream. Other people have had luck with covering the litter with plastic wrap and using their finger to make little indentations that some of the pee can flow into.
I Googled what I think is the manual for your blood ketone meter here.

He squats so low. He’s practically touching the litter lol. I was going to try a little pool I saw form naturally on top but he saw me watching and covered it and ran off lol.

Also thank you, that looks like the manual. I’m not sure if there is anything in that that’s helpful?

FWIW, he was more active last night despite his higher glucose and ketones. He explored and even played a little. He’s definitely drinking a ton of water this morning so unfortunately I know his number is going to be higher when I test in an hour, but his insulin is gone from his system so extra thirst is unfortunately normal (but not this much...). I’m not looking forward to either test result this morning :(

His chart is updated for the morning. He’s consistently in the 400s AMPS/PMPS. Yesterday seems to be a fluke. This new dose isn’t working, he was doing better on 2. Even though he was in the 300s/200s at least he wasn’t in the 400s. I have to do his shot in 30 so I’ll just do the normal 2.5 but if I can please get help today I’d like to either change his Vetsulin dose tonight (higher? lower? Could 2.25 be better?) or switch to Lev sooner... I’m just concerned because the consistent high glucose is making his ketones higher again, and I know Lev takes time to build up. Please help!

Riley. I see you made the switch to levemir, but lowered the dose. I wouldn't. I would start at the same dose you left off on. The ketones will build if you start lower
