Good morning everybody! At least I got a PS this morning in the yellow zone. So far, the R hasn't really taken him down, but I'm thinking it's kept him from rising. And soon, I hope, the Lantus will kick in at +4.

Oh, and I think just being in the yellows is making him feel better. He's not lying around as much this morning. He just came up to sit in my lap at the computer, which he hasn't done for a while now.

Now, I have a completely unrelated question about the facebook page. Why, oh why do people on the FB page (all the time) tell other people to "just don't worry about testing" I hate to see that. A few times, I have implored people to, at the very least, do pre-shot tests to make sure it was even safe to give insulin in the first place. I've had my ears pinned back by others who tell me that "the cat needs insulin" above all and it's the most important thing -- and I should not tell people to not give insulin... which is NOT what I'm saying... I'm saying test BEFORE shooting, that's all. I know it's hard at first. I cried and was frustrated that first week of learning to test. It got easier after that. I rarely comment on FB anymore because of this. I just wish people could understand, and especially that they would be told by their vets, that insulin can kill their cat. I think many people think they will just give the magic insulin injection and everything is going to be okay. I get upset about this. Anyway, that is my totally off topic post for today. I'll update my numbers throughout the day. Happy Friday to all!

On the up side, he's seeing more yellows now and I'm glad he feels better there.

There are many feline diabetes FB pages, not all are created equal. Some are just really bad.

Yes! Yellow. I got a 266 at +5 but just haven’t had time to put it in the SS yet. I came inside from trimming shrubs to give him a test. I was excited to see the 266.

Glad to hear Darcy is feeling better in the yellows :bighug::bighug:

Our vet had us testing using urine dips once a week - we went up to 3IU at one point without testing! Seeing Fortune's numbers now, we got very lucky something tragic didn't happen. But you trust your vet to tell you what you need to know and guide you. I also think vets believe folks will not be ok to test their animals 2x/day pre-shot, so they feel that it's a compromise.

Fortune's treating internist kept bumping him up to 3IU after ONE cycle and it was mind blowing to me. Conversely, the internist we saw on 1/31 told me to hold the dose for 10-14 days. IMHO neither are right, but the most conservative approach likely causes less harm. They both seemed to think that 250-300 is a good BG.

With my 1st diabetic, vet had me going once a week for +6 test. I had to ask if it was something I could do at home since I worked full time. He said I could but only needed to do a weekly mid cycle or if cat was acting strange. He also said most his clients wouldn't do it so he doesn't mention it to them.

I learned from here when one night (day I found fdmb and joined) Smokey wasn't right. I tested and got 32 at +4. It was a long night as I didn't have hc, honey, or karo in house. I did have pure maple syrup and that's we used.

Well, you must've done something right, since Smokey lived to 18 and a half years old! How's the Spring in PA? I'm hoping you'll get some nice weather so your cold and snow blues will disappear!

I went ahead and increased to 33 units. I went to the vet today and got a prescription for Levemir. I don't know if I need to snail mail this to Mark's or what. I'll head over to their website for help with that. In the meantime, I'm refilling the Lantus.

Smokey was 16 when I took him from my parents.

We have had a few pleasant days. Starting to see the ground. Today I saw my hyacinth popping through. The snowdrop flowers are up. I was finally able to get the feeders that were buried under the snow. Now it's all mud.

Oh, right. Now I remember reading that in your story. About Smokey and your parents weren't able to care for him anymore very well.

You can email it to them. Then follow up with phone call.
I was so impressed with them! They called me even before the vet told me she'd faxed the prescription to them! We talked on the 5th and it was shipped on the 10th, delivery due on the 18th. I need the patience pants because I keep looking up the tracking number but it's obviously on a truck with no updates - he said it has to go down to San Francisco for customs, probably drove right past me on its way down from Vancouver! Your planning is probably better than mine, I think I am going to run out the day before it arrives so will have to get 1 pen locally at half the price of 5 from Mark's. :banghead:

Good luck!

Suzanne, yay for for cuddles and feeling a bit better!!
All the best with the Lev.

I have also implored people (online and in person) to test their diabetic cats and wish vets would tell people that insulin can be fatal.
Someone I work with has a diabetic cat and just does a curve every now and then. That's it! She won't listen to me about testing so I stopped trying and stopped asking after kitty. It's sad.

Yes. Thanks. She said we should probably state out at 70 percent of his current dose. When I get it, I’ll certainly be checking in for advice!
