For some reason today i got into a lot of comments that are talking about the need to change the insulin dose so i started to think about it. Based on TR protocol we have to hold a dose if the cat predominantly spends time between 50-200 BG.

Chico is doing very well on this dose, most of the time he is exactly in the correct range, therefore theoretically we should hold him on it until all his numbers are under 200 and until when he reaches <50BG. On the other hand i was wondering if increasing the dose to smth like 2.1U (which i believe we can do just by giving a bit more than 2U) would not be more beneficial to him. Maybe it would help with the higher bounces?

Just thinking out loud, if there would be someone with an opinion on this issue i will be happy to hear it,
Thanks in advance:cat::cat:

Good shooting!

As for the dose, I would hold for now, he had a nadir of 56 just yesterday so no wiggle room.

Ignore the bounces, taking the dose up will not help with those, the bounces are his liver panicking and dumping glucose into his bloodstream, taking the dose up will not affect that.

Interesting that PMPS appears to be falling number, could turn into an exciting evening.

After reading the "exciting" part wanted to measure 0.5 :D DB made me resist it

I think you could wait one hour.

He may not have onset yet, so he may dip by +3. But he's not diving at the moment.
He has been spending pretty steady time in the 70s lately, we hope today will be the same.
How come it would onset so late? I though it can onset earlier than 2 not later

With insulin being a hormone a lot of factors can affect its action and absorption can vary shot to shot affecting onset, nadir and duration.

Onset is usually around +2, it can be a little later or a little earlier.

I'm glad to see you are getting more comfortable with him in the greens.

He is 67@3; we gave him 5more g and hopefully it will hold him until +4

we are still stressing about how often should we measure or how much food should we give him... its a continuous fight but we have more information to be able to take some decisions, whether they r correct or not is another story

Since my husband spends more time with him in the night he feels more comfortable with the greens than me :D

We often say to new members, ' they often go lower at night'. Chico is a good example of that.

Though he's seen more green at night he's been flatter, that can be easier on your nerves. His had his lowest nadir in the am cycle.

I found it hard to step back from the testing.

He's having a very flat cycle
If he's still flat at +4, feed him his usual snack/and probiotic. Then let him chill till +6.

He’s 83 now, we will let him chill till +6 then, thanks for your support

He likes to go lower at night, poor DB :D but you are right, the fact that he stays flat at night is probably what makes DB more confident as well.

I am worried that we will get complacent and not measure when he will go low... so i am trying as well to be on top of measuring.

He has been on this dose for almost 2 weeks now, he really likes it :)
