Yesterday on Along Came Ruby. :cat:

Ruby's eating started to slow down again last night. I'm feeding her more raw now than cooked and am wondering if she's wanting to eat less because the food is more calorically and nutritionally dense? Gave her an Ondansetron after she was staring at the food bowl for a while and walking away, licking her lips. Otherwise, she seems to be great: really active, running around, going from windowsill to windowsill, loving the spring weather, and even gave me a substantial poop last night.

Healing thoughts for all of the sick kitties and hugs to you beans who really need them! Happy Thursday! :bighug::bighug:

Primal is not discontinuing the freeze dried. How many calories is Ruby getting?
I'm glad to hear this! Thanks for checking with them and sorry for making you worry. :)

I aim for somewhere between 180 and 220 calories to maintain her weight of 11-12 lbs. I figure that's about 4.5 oz raw per day, and this morning she barely ate 1 oz so far.

So strange that Ruby hasn't noticed the dose increase?
Right?! :banghead: I am wondering if I should wait 6 cycles for the depot to build to see a reaction, but none so far yet. She's outwardly doing really well aside from the finicky appetite issues so I'm happy about that but perplexed by the numbers.

Yeah, the depot should be built by now right? It's not a large depot. Very odd.
That's the same frustration I had with Buddy when increasing the dose. I thought it was because of the small increases but 0.25 is the standard. o_O

In my experience, yes. Butters gets around 1.5oz - 2oz less raw food than she did when eating canned.
Sending a planeload of eating vines to Ruby. Eat up, girlie!!
Good to know! Thanks, Lyla. I was feeding Ruby about 6 oz of food every day, but since it was Weruva most of it is water. I'm still adding some warm water to Ruby's raw food but it's definitely not as "lappable" as the Weruva pates. I'm going to taper down to 4.5 oz with the raw to see how she fares with it.

I gave her a ball of SEB and aloe about 45 mins before she ate up her +5 meal of bison. She loves her bison like Butters! And SEB really seems to work for nausea.

Lovely to hear the Ruby is feeling good.:)

Raw food is more calorie dense than canned. Neko got 125 grams of raw per day, but 155 grams of canned, depending on the type of protein. Different meats also have different calories per gram or ounce, mostly depending on the fat content. So duck and lamb and chicken thigh will be more calorie dense than chicken breast, venison, kangaroo. To name just a few examples.

@tiffmaxee Good news on the Primal - it's an important topper here.

Thanks, Wendy! I was pleasantly surprised to realize how many more calories there are in raw meat versus the commercial foods I’ve been feeding and how much more nutritious it is overall.
