Testing is starting to get easier again. He reaaallllyyyy doesn't like it but every time I test, he is rewarded with food so I think he's starting to realise that. I know I'm not testing enough yet and really need another 2 tests per day. It's hard to say why he is at 407 today. Did he dip lowish last night? Who knows. But from the tests I have taken, I want to increase him to 6 units. 5 isn't doing enough for him. Thoughts?

Mo is doing well. Eating well, following us around for pats (hasn't done this for a looooong time), doing nice solid poops. He's letting me stroke him along his spine to his tail as well and once I get to his tail he perks it up so I stroke along his tail too. He would only let us touch his head before :) He's such a sweet boy EXCEPT when it comes to testing and his injections. We have found a way that works for us when he is hissing and trying to bite us. Because he has his interest in food back it's a lot easier. I have to put my legs around him, gently press him down and inject him that way. He is then distracted by the food anyway but makes some growly OMNOMNOM sounds. I then tell him what a good boy his is, give him a tickle, then walk away so he can relax. He knows it's got to happen, he just dislikes it greatly.

We have an appointment with our usual vet on Monday evening just to make sure his pancreas is still soft. We have the Cerenia tablets now. Today is the first day on them. The vet suggested we can crush them up then put them into a syringe with water and give to him like we have been the cerenia liquid, which is a great idea! I think we will do that. He will hate the taste but I always give him something yummy to eat afterwards to get the taste out of his mouth.

Hope everyone is having a great day :)

Hi Katy :bighug: Glad you all are hanging in there and sounds like Mo is tolerating testing (hey, that's an improvement!). I can't advise to dosing but wanted to comment on the bad taste - if you shoot the pill crushed in liquid, you can then shoot an itty bit of water in right after. I did this for Jax when he had liquid antibiotics and it seemed to help him get over the taste. Just an idea :) Surf safely, Mo :cat:

Fabulous idea, thank you!!! :)

Did you give insulin the night of the 9th? The units column is empty. The fur shot on the AM of the 9th would still be impacting his numbers and making him higher. That's one reason for the 407. More so if you skipped the PM of the 9th. Good to hear that you recognize those night time tests are important too.

I would increase to 6 units. You were at 9.5 units of Lantus, which would have meant a starting dose of 6.5 units of Levemir, so 6.0 should be OK. And still probably too low.

Crushed Cerenia in liquid will be bitter, he might not like it. Any chance you can hide it in something like a pill pocket or piece of meat?

Good spotting! Yes we would have, I must have accidentally deleted it.

Yeah, I imagine the crushed pill would be bitter..hmmm...we tried putting other pills in meat and he caught on to it and stopped eating it so maybe it'll just be a case of burritoing him again. I will have a play around and see what works for him since it looks like this is going to be a long term thing.

We will start 6 units tonight. Thank you!

Not sure if you’ve tried this but I’ve hidden the cerenia in a little butter. Butters has sniffed it out in everything else but the butter works like a charm for her.

Crushed Cerenia in liquid will be bitter,
Just a heads up, when I gave Minnie the crushed cerenia dissolved in water this way, she almost immediately started drooling and I panicked that she was foaming at the mouth. Vet hadn't warned me but when I called they explained. I was successful crushing it and mixing it in her food.

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I don't believe Mo needs the Cerenia. Based on the way you describe Mo is acting, he would probably do just as well without them and would certainly give him another break from the stress of taking medicine. It would also help your pocketbook. Phoenix's vet told me to give him the cerenia when he was nauseous, not all the time. I only ever needed 3 boxs and that was over about a 6 month period.

Here's where you are going to hate me. I am old so I can get away with speaking my mind. I think you need to shop around for another vet. I know this vet was recommended to you but I believe she sees a meal ticket in you. I know you love Mo. He couldn't have a better mother than you. He is a very lucky cat.

I would try calling a stray cat sanctuary or a place that finds homes for stray cats. They use vets and they are usually very good. A lot of these vets donate their time so you know they love animals. They might be able to recommend a vet to you.

Try Mo without the Cerenia. If he gets nauseous, you can always give him a pill. But, I bet he does fine without them. Let his life and your life get back to normal. Have a great day or evening whatever it is where you are. Give Mo a big kiss, he is getting better !!!
