Hi! I’m getting nervous as low BG—- I increased Felix’s dose this AM to 1.75U. He is now sitting at 45 (no hypo symptoms at the moment). I just re-tested him after 8 min to confirm #’s, it’s showing 46.

(He seems fine, after being tested so many times he’s now looking for food because he believes testing = food)

What do you recommend I do? Do I continue to test or feed him - if food, LC or MC? If continue to test at what point do I need to give him food if no hypo symptoms?

I fed him HC- 8 Greenies treats. I do have some MC food, I could also feed him & HC dry cat food.

I just tested him again, still at 51 (it’s been about 18 min)

What is your MC%? We don't want to carb him too much also, late in the cycle. Avoid dry.

Do you have HC canned?

3.94% as fed/18.22% on dry matter basis. I’m also seeing 5% carbs in another place (as its not on their label). It’s Wellness Morsals chicken & chicken liver. That’s the only wet cat food I have that’s not LC. (He’ll eat just about anything so if there’s human food that would work, he’d prob eat it)

I gave him a teaspoon of the Wellness about 20-25 min ago (looking at the chart I’m not sure that it’s any of those). He’s at 48 now...

OK. So you're going to have to stock up on some MC (>10 and <15%) and some HC (>15%) food!
Add a little honey to the food and give him some.

Apparently! I guess the good thing is that my cat will eat anything (always has) & while he seems confused as why I keep feeding him, he’s eaten everything with zero hesitation.

He’s at 54 at +7.5, little under 30 min post food. I’ll test him again at +8.

The last he ate was at +7, right? If he is higher at +8, you want to withhold food and see if he stays up without food.

I guess you got no sleep and Felix got a lot more food than he anticipated! :-)

If you have icecream you can also use that as HC, some cats love it.

BTW, he doesn't earn a reduction on TR, as a long term diabetic he needs to drop below 40. Or you can also try a reduction if he drops three times under 50 on different days.

Ok. Quick question - My kitty was at 45, should I have waited to see if he went under 40? I fed him HC/MC food to raise his BG, was that a mistake?

Good question
My understanding is that the take action number is 50, regardless of whether Kitty is newly diagnosed or long term diabetic.
I'm going to double check with some others.

If you had to work very hard to keep him over 50 you might try the reduction. But it didn't seem to pan out that way today.
When he dropped to 59 did you give him some of his regular food? (No food noted in SS)
If you didn't a couple of teaspoons of LC then might have helped him surf a little higher, and not dip into the 40's

A human food that's high in Carbs is ice-cream, a teaspoon of that good be used as HC.

And adding honey or Karo to his MC food can also pep up the carbs in his food.
