He is largely flat. There is 15-20% meter variance. It looks like he needs more juice. Let's wait till the Lantus depot builds and take call on dose.

If he has been transitioned to canned (no dry), you could look at following TR rather than SLGS. You could get to his optimal dose faster. Leaving him in higher numbers longer could lead to glucose toxicity, neuropathy etc. You know how it is.

@Bandit's Mom

Let me take time to re-read all about TR. I feel nervous about it for some reason and I cannot remember what it was that had me too scared to do it the first time and even now. It seems it was something about high dosing that scared me, but again, let me go re-read up on it, so if I have questions, I know what I am asking. Thank you for your input on that. I would like to get him to lower numbers because he did have neuropathy the first time and I dont want him to get that far into this.

I am chicken to do it. I do not hold up well under certain types of pressures and this is one of those :/
I understand where you are coming from.

May I suggest that you follow TR till Mouzer's numbers come to below the renal threshold (say around 200) and then switch to SLGS so you aren't dealing with very low numbers? With SLGS, you increase by 0.25U every week. It may be a while before Mouzer gets anywhere near his optimal dose.

I agree with Bhooma, you may want to be a tad more aggressive and following TR will allow you to do that. Best of luck on your reading. It's a lot isn't it?

Sure would be good to see some change with those numbers soon. Poor fellow, he can't be feeling so great just now with those high numbers.

Please add your kitty's name to your title :)

Thank you!

That sounds a bit not so spooky. Like right now, I would feel safe to take Mouzer's dose up by 0.25 because we are not low and I dont have to freak out over if he dropped because he has plenty of room to drop right now, without fear.

So, if we did TR, how do I go about this?
When do I raise by 0.25, so to do the TR?
And do I need to do a curve before changing dose and if so, when do I need to get that done?
And do I need to mark TR on the SS or just leave it as is for now and we just know what we are doing here?
I looked over the SS and March 9th at PMPS will be three consecutive days, six consecutive doses on 0.5u.
So, would that mean dose increase at AMPS on March 10th? Or is it possible to increase dose already?

Thank you for the mention of missing name in title :D

You could increase tomorrow morning by .25 on TR, 6 cycles at the same dose without seeing any greens is ok per that dosing method to move up..

OK - Forgive me for having to straighten out my head...
Tonight will be the seventh consecutive shot
Tomorrow morning would be the eighth --
Are shot times called cycles? - So, every 12 hours is one cycle?

*****EDIT: NEVERMIND :D
3 days (6 consecutive cycles)
I got it! Two cycles per day times three days is six cycles *duh me*

Hi Cherryl, we normally hold the starting dose 1 week for the Lantus depot to build, but considering you started too low (0.5U rather than 1U starting dose of both protocols) and Mouzer's nadirs are above 300, I wonder if it's okay to increase by 0.25U or even 0.5U.

I'm tagging @tiffmaxee and @Wendy&Neko and let's see what they say.

From the description of the TR protocol "Kitties experiencing high flat curves or prone to ketones may want to increase the starting dose after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)."
I think you'd be fine increasing Mouzer to 1.0 units now as he is both high and flat. With cats that have come out of remission, you want to be a bit more aggressive if you want to get him back into remission. A 0.5 unit increase would be safe and help get him into better numbers sooner.

I will go from 0.5 to 1.0 AM tomorrow! I feel comfy with that.
