FINALLY SAW MY DAD TODAY

Diane Tyler's Mom GA

Member Since 2018
Hi guys , Tyler is doing great, he goes for his dental on 3-16

My daughter Ashley has been having a really rough time with the pain condition she has for 16 years right now. A very bad flare up.
I have posted about it in the past.
It's called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
I found the post in case anyone wants to Google it

It's the most painful disease in medical history. It's actually known as the Suicide Disease, not kidding

No cure, no research , no funding, and no awareness.
I belong to many support groups and believe me you wouldn't believe how many of them committed suicide because they couldn't take the pain, the loniness, the depression any longer, both young and older people have taken their lives.

It's rated the on the McGill Pain Scale
It's called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, or RSD
It's been around since the Civil War and they still haven't done squat about it
She's 35 , so lost all those years since she's 20 years old.
No boyfriend, , never get married or have kids,no friends they all abandoned her, no job , no anything.
She can't leave the house because of noise, the disease is mainly in her ears,
any noise is like an ice pick stabbing her in the ears, then it leads to the entire face, nose, eyes , neck.

It's nerve pain and feels like you are on fire.
So if neighbors cut their grass, leaf blowers we have to leave and either go to NY sisters or sit in the car.
Winter you have snow blowers, not fun having to leave when it's freezing out.
She also has it in her arms and legs, it spreads and also effects the organs.
I know people who have had it for 30 years.
When you read about it in the internet that doesn't even begin to tell you half if the
symptom get. Everyone is different.
But they all share one thing severe pain, isolation and depression.
Some doctors don't even know what it is, I have to educate them when she has a doctor appt, to tell them to talk low, be gentle with her.

It's just too much, so she is like a prisoner in jail, they have it better than people with
this dam disease.
Sorry for the big rant, just wanted to say if I'm not on sometimes or I don't reply
it's because of my daughter.
In all my life I would never think she would have a life like this.
It's dam heartbreaking
They will never find a cure or treatments that work, and we have tried them all,
Traveled to about 5 different states in the past.

Just wanted you to all know I didn't forget about any of you.
I have posted that my dad has Alzheimer's , he's in a wonderful nursing home .
Me, my sister and brother really checked the place out
It came on slowly, he does know exactly who we are , some days are better than others

We can finally visit now, My sister saw him first, then my brother.
I will go this Tuesday to visit. I haven't seen him since 10-6-20
He was in the hospital, had a mini stroke which I think made the Alzheimer's worse.
I'm so nervous to see him, I asked my sister how does he look.
She said he looks tired and older. He's 86
Only one visitor per week
I just feel I will get sick to my stomach when I see him
Never thought this would happen to him
He was a tough guy from Newark, N.J. and to see him like this just kills me

The place gives everyone a rapid covid test when you get there.
I talk to him every day and he can carry on a normal conversation with you.
Then other times a little confused.

One thing he never forgets to ask me is How is Ashley. He will say make sure you take care if her, that's all that's important.
He is like a father to her . She is just sick over this, she can't even cry because when she does
it causes her pain.
I have to say she is his favorite, maybe because she was the first grandchild.

Out if all the grandkids she always made things special for him, like his birthday.
She would bake him a cake, decorate our kitchen with balloons, and other birthday stuff
She is such a loving person, I can't even begin to tell you
She doesn't deserve this dam disease.!
My heart just breaks for her , I wish I could trade places with her and take all her pain away.

My husband died 13 years ago and my mom 12 years ago
So it was really just me, Ashley and my dad.

Well guys just wanted to tell you all of this in case I go missing in action at times.
I know you would all miss me lol lol
Sorry for the long post.
I checked in on all the kitties today and glad they are doing good.
Thanks for listening ♥

Sorry Diane, it sounds like a very difficult time. Also very glad that at least Tyler's number are under control so that's one less thing on your plate. I hope you have a nice visit with your dad :bighug:

Diane, we think about you when you are not here. Please take good care of yourself and that "less than sweet" kitty of yours Tyler. Can't call him "extra sweet" anymore since he went OTJ. :)

You know we will be keeping you and all your family in our thoughts.

My heart goes out to you, Ashley and your father. It's heartbreaking just to read what she has to go through. You're all in my prayers but gosh I wish there was more that I could do. You've always been here for us on the board, even with all you've got going on in your life. You're an amazing, wonderful person. Ashley and your dad are so lucky to have such an amazing mother and daughter. And we are lucky to have you here supporting us. But when you aren't able to be on the board, we know where you are. You really need to find time to look after yourself, too.
Sending hugs and support and prayers to you, Ashley and your dad:bighug::bighug::bighug:
And extra wet kisses to Tyler:kiss::kiss::kiss:

Lady, you have the biggest heart. You have so much love and care to spread around, it's really admirable. I'd send you more strength but it seems you have it in spades. :bighug:

Thank you, Diane, for always coming to see how we're doing. Hugs to you.

Hi Deb, thanks so much, and he's still not sweet , still biting my ankles if I don't feed him asap, or if I try to brush him and he doesn't like it, I will stop and walk away and the brat will actually chase me and attack my ankle.
He is really a weirdo , but still love the crap out of him.
I tell him you are not like your brother Perry at all, he was a lover lol
Sometimes I just have to rant on here and get it out ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Lyla, thanks so much, you are all amazing parents, believe me I'm not a saint lol
Gotta do what you gotta do. Sometimes I just want to scream lol
You would all do the same. I always have to check up on all the kitties here and make sure they are all doing good, I'm addicted lol
Have a good day Lyla and Butters too ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m so sorry, Diane. You are amazing for all you’ve done and do for your family. It has to beyond difficult to see your child in so much pain. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
Hi Marje, thanks you ,I'm glad I have all of you here when I want to go on a rant.
You all have supported me when it came to Tyler. I couldn't have found a better family to belong to. You are all so compassionate and caring. Have a good day ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Katherine, thank you, but like I said I am no saint at times lol
I get my moments when I just want to run away. So go ahead and send that extra strength lol
I gotta always check up on the kitties, have to make sure they are all OK.
You and Ruby have a good day ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh my, Diane, I don't know how you keep on going. No alternative, I guess. I am so sorry to read this about your daughter. It must be unbearable to see her in so much pain. I can't even imagine. My daughter gets really bad daily ice pick headaches, but we have found a few things that help her so it's not so bad (supplements, as the drugs they prescribed made her hallucinate, etc.) But to have this disease with so much pain and no help for a cure... you can rant anytime you want to. My heart goes out to you. I will pray for Ashley. I am very sorry about your father as well. It is hard to see this happen, isn't it. I will be thinking of you all.

Actually, I know someone with CRPS.
I believe she's been in several trials trying to find some sort of relief. She has bad days, but she's managed to get an education from university, she tries her absolute best to hang in there, have a social life, doing what everyone else is in her own terms. She was really young when it started. I don't know anyone stronger than her, really. I know she struggles doing what we take for granted. This disease is heartbreaking, no one should suffer from it!
But support is everything, Diane :bighug:
Your daughter is lucky to have you by her side, fighting for and beside her :bighug:
Have you been looking for research outside the US?
Hugs Diane, and congratulations with Tyler. He is a freaking badass!:bighug:

found something that helps her. Thank you for your prayers ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Sasha, I'm sorry about your friend also having CRPS
The worst part about my daughter having it is that she can't be around any noise at all. That's why she can't be around people, go to stores, you can't get away from noise. She also had 2 jaw surgeries years ago . She had TMJ.
They make the incision right in front of the ears to do it.
So that made everything even worse.
I have read about the trials, but I really don't think they will help.

One that was done in Italy , the med that was tried can break down the jaw bone, that's all we need .
To have it in the ears and not being able to socialize is killing her
Just a breeze on her ears kills her. Last summer she had to wear a winter coat with a hood just to protect her ears.
Will have to do it again this summer.
She can't have anything tight touch her ears, so wearing noise canceling ear
phones is not a possibility.
It just sucks.
Tyler is a bad ass lol at times he just won't shut up, he has the most annoying meow
that you just can't listen to it . He's a spoiled brat, but aren't all our kitties spoiled lol
Have a good night and thank you ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Prayers for all. God Bless You and Yours.

Wishing I was in NJ :bighug::bighug::bighug: Prayers for Ashley and you and your Dad. I'm sure you're nervous to see your dad - so hard to see the ones we love in difficult stages of life - he must be so excited to see you :bighug::bighug::bighug: you'll have a wonderful visit. Many many hugs. Wet kisses to Tyler :kiss::kiss:

Diane, sending so much love and hugs your way :bighug::bighug: Losing Perry, then having your dad deteriorate - it seems like a big pile on, doesn't it? I hope Ashley gets some relief - I also have a chronic pain disorder, mine's genetic. While of course I cannot know what Ashley goes through, I extend so much empathy. I only know what it's like to be the person in pain, and she is lucky to have a mom so dedicated to supporting and helping her limit her pain as best you are able. Too often I see that disorders that primarily affect women and BIPOC are underfunded and underresearched - it is a travesty!

I hope when you do visit your dad, you have a good visit with quality time together. That's terrific they are doing rapid tests! Hopefully they will become more and more accurate and allow us to finally get this pandemic under better control.

I hope Tyler has a very boring and uneventful dental visit! :bighug::bighug:

(((Diane)))
I'm so sorry. It must be so difficult to see what your daughter is going through and not be able to do anything that truly helps. If you need to rant, this is a safe place to do so.
Thank you Sienne I appreciate it. It just kills me to see her like this, I never thought her life would turn out like this. :bighug::cat:

Thank you Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear you also have a chronic pain disorder, would you mind telling me what it is.
You are so right about certain disorders being underfunded.
Losing Perry killed me, he was my heart kitty.
Tyler is nothing like his brother Perry, Tyler is a real loner, doesn't like to be cuddled at all, only kisses up to me when he wants to be fed.
Perry was so loving, he just loved the heck out of me.He would jump up onto his cat
napper and wait for me to go over to him and he would just rub and rub my face, look at me with his big eyes with such love that my daughter would say we were
sickening lol.
When I would give him his fluids he would purr and purr then lay on his side and just look at me, he was such a good boy.
Tyler is going for a cleaning, never had one in 12 yrs
My vet already looked at his teeth when he went for blood work a couple weeks ago, thank God everything was good
She saw one back tooth that she said might have to come out, she will see about that when she does the x-rays and start to clean them.
I hope he doesn't have to have it taken out.
I'm a nervous wreck already about the cleaning.
He's been in remission since 1-24-21 so I'm hoping if his numbers go up
it will only be for awhile.

When I took him for blood work he howled all the way there and it's the most annoying meow you could imagine. I'm surprised he didn't get hoarse lol
I was allowed to wait in the waiting room and heard him still carrying on in there
with the vet.

The next day his BG went up and I was so afraid it wasn't going to come back down
but it did after 2 days.
That's how stressed out he was , big baby
Perry was just the opposite not a peep out of him when he went.
I'm going to ask my vet if she can give me some gabapentin to give him before
the cleaning.
She gave me some years ago but I never used them and threw them away.
I'm sure she will give them to me again.
So if his numbers do go up I'm praying it will only be temporary and not knick him out of remission. Paws crossed
@RachelG

An operation? It's my understanding that any damage to the area makes it worse, and it can spread.
It must be very difficult when it involves sound too. Life's just unfair!
Is she on medication?

I am so sorry to hear about what your daughter is going through. I have never heard of that disease and it sound absolutely horrible. My prayers for Ashely, you and the family. Of course we understand when we don't hear from you. I am so happy that Tyler is doing well. That is one less thing to worry about. You have helped and guided me in the past and I only wish good things for you and your daughter. Enjoy your visit with your Dad. You are lucky to still have him.

Hi Sasha , she is on meds, when the flare is this bad the meds really don't help that much.
Different pathways so for some meds don't help at all
Yes any operation can make it spread, and sometimes it spreads without having any surgical procedures. I belong to 5 support groups and many have had it spread for no reason
It's terrible

Hi everyone, well first visit with my dad today since 10-6-20
He was waiting for me, knew exactly who I was, I guess it was a good day for him
today. Not confused at all.
I played some cards with him, we watched some TV.
I brought him up some of those marshmallows treats called Peeps
He devoured 4 of them lol
I had to take them away from him, he just loves his sweets

He looked good , walks very slow , he's got osteoarthritis in his hip
Did a little grooming on him, cut the hair in his ears and nose, that was always
my job lol

The place is very clean and the whole staff is so nice, finally got to meet most if them that I had talked to on the phone a dozen times.

They did a rapid covid test on me, they do it for everyone that visits

On 3-19 he will be going to see his own optomologist ,they will take him by ambulance and I will be there waiting for them
He has macular degeneration and it has to be checked again
His one eye is completely shot, the other one is so so.
So I'll get to see him again then , then on 3-30 my turn to go to the nursing home again.
It's my sister one week, then my brother, then me.
Only 2 visitors allowed on the floor at once
So one visitor for my father and one for another patient

Thank God he didn't mention coming home.
I still breaks my heart that he's there.
So all in all it was a good visit
And of course he asked about Ashley, his favorite
Hopefully when the weather gets warmer she might be able to visit him
My sister face times him, so when Ashley is hopefully feeling better she can go to my sisters and face time with him, I know she is going to break down when she
sees his face.
Him being there and having Alzheimer's is just killing her
Thanks for all your support guys , I truly appreciate it ♥♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi everyone, well first visit with my dad today since 10-6-20
He was waiting for me, knew exactly who I was, I guess it was a good day for him
today. Not confused at all.
I played some cards with him, we watched some TV.
I brought him up some of those marshmallows treats called Peeps
He devoured 4 of them lol
I had to take them away from him, he just loves his sweets

He looked good , walks very slow , he's got osteoarthritis in his hip
Did a little grooming on him, cut the hair in his ears and nose, that was always

I'm so glad you had a nice visit with your Dad, Diane. This group is all about support and we pay it forward. I'm sure it is hard to see him in long-term care but it can be very difficult being a caretaker and it sounds like you already have enough on your plate. Just be happy that he is in a nice, clean facility with good people and enjoy your visits with him. I'm sure he was happy to see you and get the "peeps"!

Omg your poor daughter!!! That sounds aweful. I would imagine she always had to wear ear plugs or noise canceling headphones. Since its nerve related is there any kind of studies on b12 methylcobalamin helping?

I'm very glad to hear you had a good visit with your dad. Sneak him an extra peep for me next time. I hope the optomologist appointment goes well, I'm glad you get to be with him when he goes. Hopefully he will get Facetime with Ashley soon, it must be hard for the both of them to not be able to see each other. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's disease. I had never heard of it before, it's crazy that it's been around since the civil war. I will be doing research on it today. I'm glad she has you, and I'm glad you have this forum. Vent all you need, and take all the time you need away. I'm so sorry, I wish there was something I could do to help ease her pain and your grief. You have such a loving heart, even when it feels like it's all too much. You say you are no saint, but I know some kitties that would beg to disagree. I will keep both you and Ashley in my prayers, strength to you both :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tyler's numbers are still looking great, hopefully he will put his big boy pants on and get his numbers down quickly after his dental appointment. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
