First day at 4.25. Multiple poke morning, then the battery went kaput on the meter and took so long to get the replacement that the blood drop on my thumbnail dried up. She was eating by the time I poked her again getting a blood drop big enough for 10 readings at least.

Also first day with the 1/2 unit marked syringes, lost 2 doses first with a big bubble and second because I could NOT get the needle into her.

She's happily snoozing now, drama over.

Looks like Minnie is following the script from the 'new to the group' sticky - NDW the last 3 increases (not sure this qualifies as "occasionally" though!). Won't bother with another test tonight, give her ears a bit of a break.

So sorry to hear that you were struggling today, we all have bad days... and we are as well seeing NDW every time we increase dose, i know how frustrating it can get.

Update: Heard back from internist, going to schedule acro and fructosamine tests.
can you please tell me how often do you do the fructosamine test?

This will be the first time! Thanks for the kind words. This morning the blood came first time!

We changed vets recently and we were told that fructosamine should have been done for diagnosing, in order to be certain and we didn't. Is there a specific reason you have to do it now though? does it have any added value? it seems that you are testing pretty often so you would know approximately her glucose levels.

Sorry if its too intrusive, i was just wondering if we are not losing some relevant information by not doing it.

thanks for your answer :)

Not at all. I will check with the ER vet, they may have done it at diagnosis back in April and I didn't realize. Thanks for mentioning because I will ask.

Doing it now because the vet (internist) contacted me yesterday recommending the acromegaly and fructosamine tests. I'm guessing since things didn't improve as she expected with the switch to Levemir a month ago, based on what she said at the time. Now I'm playing the fun game of getting quotes from the internist at the hospital and my own vet - even though they both send them out, the price differences are crazy (fructosamine $170 vs $63... waiting to hear on the acromegaly test)

"pretty often" - understatement! Not sure I have a life right now so much as gaps between BG tests and preparing snacks!!

crossing my fingers, it will clarify somethings for you. What insulin did you change from?

Such huge difference between different vets, its ridiculous! Do they at least have an explanation for that? maybe different methods?

I know exactly what you mean :D:D we are lucky to be home officing this period, i cannot imagine being able to keep up with this tempo being away from home for 9-10 hours a day

We were on Lantus previously.

My explanation is that the internist is with a hospital that is part of a national corporate chain (Blue Pearl) and they seem to charge much more for everything. When we were using the Libre continuous glucose monitor, my vet charged $30 to apply it and Blue Pearl wanted to charge $270....

and yes...silver lining, right?

o_O I can’t imagine having to constantly have these price differences in mind. So u kind of have to chose your specialist based on what’s reasonably priced? I guess there are differences here (in Czech rep.) in costs for different procedures but i am certain they are up to 10% or smth... to have a place charge 9 times more for the same procedure you can get cheaper i am certain they would go bankrupt in a mater of months :D

You had a continuous glucose meter set up? I thought they don’t do that for cats :bookworm::bookworm: Do they apply that for some period of time only or can it be permanent?
