He was OTJ on 1-25-21

I am so upset, last night I took Tyler to my vet for routine blood work on 2-11 THURS last time he had it was
2-1/2 years ago.
I tested him last night before the vet visit @+9 which was 5:30 PM

Vet visit was at 6:30. He got a rabbies and FVRCP vaccine
I didn't test him after the vet visit

Today Friday I tested him PMPS and it was 109 I feed him his FF Pate 2%
I tested him again @+3.25 and it was 127 fed him FF pate 2%

What could be happening
Could he be out of remission already?

I could just cry over this

Could these vaccines have anything to do with this, probably not right?

Should have blood work back this Monday
He seems totally fine, eating, pooping, only has water mixed in with his food
Playing, grooming. Everything is normal
Weighed in at 17.80 pounds
His last weight at the vets was on 2-20-20 he weighed 19.2 pounds
She is also checking his thyroid

Neko always was a little off after her rabies vaccine. Let's see where Tyler is tomorrow. :bighug:
I hope that's all it is Wendy, now I can't stop worrying .
Oh she looked at his teeth and he does need a cleaning, she said she was concerned a little bit about one back tooth. She said she won't know if it has to be pulled until
she does his X-ray and starts to do the cleaning

It's scheduled for 3-4. I am sure if she thought it was an emergency she would have told me
@Wendy&Neko

I hope he comes down. Can imagine how upset you must be. I hope it's just the vet stress and the vaccines. :bighug:

I find that Bandit reacts to everything! Deworming meds, Revolution spot-on, vet visits...

Oh Bhooma I hope so, funny thing is he doesn't seemed stressed at all

Yes. Strangely, when she is stressed - like when we give her a bath (she never cleans herself and gets filthy!) - her numbers don't react! Sometimes the vet stress hits her with a delay.
Might have something to do with the way their bodies respond to the meds/vaccines.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning when I test him, I won't even want to look at the meter

Hi Diane, his numbers previous to today look perfect. It might be a blip, a temporary reaction to the vet. Don't lose faith. Hugs.
Hey Katherine, That's what I can't understand, all of his numbers have been good so
far. When I saw those 2 numbers, I said what the heck is going on here.

Now I can't wait for the morning to test him.
Who knows what will happen when he goes for his dental :arghh:

Diane try not to worry. My guess is it is a reaction to the vaccines. Some cats do have reactions to vaccines and even if we don't see a reaction it can affect their bodies. I'd give it a couple of days for his body to get used to the vaccines. Those numbers are not that high. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'll second the vote on the vaccine reaction. Luci didn't feel well after her rabies vaccine either - I typically never get that, but the folks at Radiocat said it was 'required' otherwise they wouldn't do the procedure.

I'll bet he comes back down after a day or three...

Tyler went through so much yesterday. Lots of stress. I agree that he probably just needs a few days to recover, so hang in there.:bighug:
Butters was visibly unwell the last time she had a rabies vaccine. She is now exempt from them in future.
Give him a few wet kisses from me and Butters.

Thank you everyone for trying to reassure me.
2-13 Tested him this morning 113 :(
Just spoke to my vet and she thinks is due to stress.
He howled all the way there, and I even heard him howling thru the doors while I was sitting in the waiting area. They let you sit there now instead of in your car.
She said give it a few days like all of you are telling me.

She also got his blood work back and everything is Good
One liver enzyme was 3 points above normal, she said it's because he's diabetic?

I'm shaking ,so I hope I got that right
She is e mailing me his blood work and I will put it in the SS

His BG on the Blood Work was 139

I'm going to test him thru the day

His dental is 3-4. I can't wait to see what that's going to do to his numbers :(
She told me to expect to see his BG rise from having the dental

You should have heard him in the car on the way there and on the ride home
Loud as can be howling

Not like my dear Perry didn't make a sound, I would sing to him lol when going to the vets,

Thanks everyone, you should see me I have tears coming down my face
I'm so upset , Big baby I am

I'm putting his numbers on the SS of course

Hi Carla, I'll try not to worry, still higher this morning. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Lyla, I hope it's just stress and the vaccines. He was so loud in the car I'm surprised he's not hoarse. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope so Sue, my vet said he would need the vaccines in order for him to have the dental . He has never had any vaccines since he was as a kitten.

Morning Susanne, you are absolutely correct, that's not what I said lol
My trashy mouth from Jersey lol I shouldn't say that, don't want to give N.J. a bad
name. ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:
You and Tyler are going to be okay :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Both of my cats sing all the time in the car...Jax gets gaba now before the vet and that made a world of difference (though he has yet to have blood drawn while not sedated...that will be the big test lol).

And FWIW we have no choice on rabies in NC; the law literally says there are no legal exemptions.

And the dental is what Tyler needs - have it taken care of will make him more comfortable :cat:

Thanks Susanne, funny thing years ago when I told my vet that Tyler would be trouble bring him in, she gave me some gaba. Never used it though
I will be sure to get it next time when he has to go to her .
This boy needs a Valium lol
Yes he definitely needs the dental, oh I can't wait
For such a big cat he's such a pussy willow baby :p

Diane,
Sweetheart, take some deep breaths and pass some calming vines to Tyler.
In my opinion, you do not need to test his BG throughout the day.

In addition to the Rabies, you said Tyler also got the FVRCP vaccine. Having the combo pushes the immune system even further. One of my kitties went into anaphylactic shock after the Rabies and another vaccine with it, several years ago. So I never let any pet have more than one shot at a time. Before that, I had a 20 lb dog who was chilled and shook all day after multiple vaccinations.

Plus, Tyler is not terribly elevated. I'm thinking the 139 was on an AT at the vet's? Correct me if I am wrong.
Hugs and relaxtion! Great news on scheduling a dental!

Sorry your Tyler has gone up. Darcy usually goes super high when he is taken to the vet... usually it resolves by evening though. I never vaccinate my cats who have already had their kitten vaccines. They don't need it. I have had some vets put pressure on me though to get them done or they "wouldn't see them." I got another vet. Even when they are sick, too! Unfortunately, it's the mobile vet who has a thing for vaccines. And it's nice to still have a relationship with the mobile vet... but she's too hard to get a hold of anyway :-( so that kind of defeats the purpose of being convenient when you call with a sick animal and they can't see your pet for a week!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I only allow my cats to receive the Merial Purevax non-adjuvanted vaccines. They are safer. Sometimes the vet has to order them in advance. After that we don't vaccinate (usually booster the FVRCP at one year). I have to say, though, that my vet does insist that well cats who are being boarded have vaccines (she probably has to by law). She will allow my "special needs" cats who have occasionally had to board to board in the treatment area so they can avoid vaccines. So I do understand the pressure to vaccinate.

Hi Jan, yes Tyler got both shots at once.I'm sorry that that happened to one of your kitties and your dog :bighug:
My vet told me the 139 BG was from the labs that she sent out.
I don't think she took his BG in the office on Thursday.
She does use the AT though.
I'm going to pick up a copy on Monday , but she said she would have them e mail it to me today.
I'll put it in his SS
She never pushed me to get the shots , she said he needed them before the dental
Next time I'll know better, one at a time.
I probably shouldn't test him throughout the day it will only make me more crazy lol
Thanks for reaching out Jan , I appreciate it
Tina Marie is such a beautiful girl
Have a good day Jan ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Suzanne , the only reason I had to get the vaccines was because he's going to have a dental on 3-4
She said unfortunately he had to get them
I have been going to her for about 20 years now and she never pressured me to get them for any of my kitties. They don't go out , so I guess she was ok with that.
All the best to your kitty Darcy ♥:bighug::bighug:

You don't need to tag me, I get notifications if a post I reply to has new info on it.

Good to hear you've got a dental scheduled.
Hi Wendy sorry I didn't know that, I'm just worried how long I should leave him in the blues before considering insulin. He was still higher this morning

Chill, Diane, Chill.

I think you are more stressed out about this tiny blip in Tyler's numbers than he is.

Wink did this a couple of times too, got into the low blues, after he went OTJ. I just tested him more regularly for about a week. Sometimes, I could tell that he had a UTI. But most times, there was no reason at all. It happens.

Hey Deb ,you are right, I'm more stressed out about than he is.
His blood work all came back great, vet called me today with it.
I'll get it Monday and put it in his SS.
I can't wait to see what I'll be like when he gets his dental on 3-4 if his numbers go up :arghh:
Have a good night Deb :bighug::cat:
