2/12 Maki, AMPS 237, PMPS 219, +2 138

Ok. She ate half a can FF pate.
Shot 1.25U

Now, comes some fun. She is down to her last dose of lantus. So will need to run to pharmacy today. I had it ordered but when I thought we were taking her off insulin, I cancelled the order. Silly me!

Bhooma, thanks for adding condo link. I forget something each time.

No worries, this whole process has been winging it!! LOLOL

So I am testing her frequently today, correct? Since only second day on LC FF and no kibble at all.

Today I will need to drive 2 hours to get to the compounding pharmacy for her Lantus refill. They are just giving her enough for her current dose for a month rather than me buying a whole vial or multiple pens. Is that the best way to go at this point? As in, do we think I should try to get a whole vial instead?

Are you asking if she is going to be on insulin for more than a month?

I thought most folks got their Lantus from Mark's Marine Pharmacy in Canada? Much cheaper than the US?

yes, asking if I will need more than 30 doses at 1.25 bid.

It was going to be much cheaper that way, but I cancelled order when I thought we were off insulin and now I can't wait for order/shipping time.

I guess I would get some from the local pharmacy and then order from Marks Marine before that runs out?

I honestly don't know how long she will be on insulin. Difficult to say till she finishes a week on LC if there's any chance she can be diet controlled! Sorry!

Nice blues. I posted on your old condo because it was bumped up. ;) I agree about the 30 day dose I guess as it will last longer than that given that we will very possibly be lowering it. Why a compounding pharmacy? I’ve never heard of anyone buying insulin that way. I like the pens because they can be used to the last drop.

ok, so I will wait for a +6

The compounding pharmacy was who the emergency vet sent us to. Because the insulin only "lasts 28 days", they sold me a tiny amount in a separate lil bottle to avoid buying $300+ worth at first. Now that I know I can keep it longer than 28 days, I bought the full vial (10 ml) and hope to share it with someone else needing Lantus here.

Since I am a strike out at ketone testing until the new meter comes, could you tell me if I am hurting Maki by not knowing the ketones now? I have been watching for any behavorial changes and so far she seems brighter and happier (minus testing pokes) than she had been prior 2 months.

Let’s see the +2 and then I will know more about testing for the night. I would get a +1 as well.

Hi Patricia, I just happened to pop in while making my rounds. If Elise doesn't pop back in soon, I'd feed a little pate because that's a pretty big drop. Don't feed too much because you may need her hungry.

I'd also get a +3. But obviously Elise's advice trumps whatever I say.

Ugh, never buy repackaged insulin. The manufacturer doesn't recommend it and we've had people get bad insulin that way. Glad you got a brand new vial.
