I am posting just cause I need some encouragement! I'm supposed to increase Quincy's dose to 1 unit; I was supposed to a few days ago after his curve and subsequent bounce but I AM SO SCARED!!!!! He hasn't been at 1 unit for quite a long time and I am so scared he's gonna go hypo! I logically know that his numbers are high enough that that most likely won't happen but 1 unit seems SO MUCH BIGGER than .75 for some reason and so now I'm super nervous to increase! I just really need some encouragement to do it!! Sorry if this seems lame; I have no one else who understands this sugar dance and the scary effects it can sometimes bring.

No need to apologize. We have all been overwhelmed and petrified at the possibility of low numbers. :bighug:
Quincy needs more juice. 50-100 on human meter is the normal range for cats. My civvie tested at 73.

A dose per se is not large or small. A cat needs as much insulin as it needs. There were/are cats here on units in the double digits.

Take the increase. You are testing him to keep him safe. :-)

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm worried I won't be able to test him enough. I'm not able to test 3x a day like I did on Monday. I can do that some days but meetings are demanding. I can do a few - AMPS, PMPS, +6 and +2 after PMPS. I could probably try to squeeze in a few more but I am still so nervous. I know what I need to do though. Sigh!!!!!!!!

A pre-shot test and one more per cycle is good enough. :)
A +2 test will give you an indication of whether it'd going to be an active cycle and you could try to get another test in later in the cycle.

With SLGS, you also have the option of doing a weekly curve, but if it happens to be day when he bounces, it may not give you the data you want.

Oh yes, I experienced that with the curve this week! He was bouncing and the curve was horrendous! But he came down the next day. Okay, thank you for saying that. I am very nervous but I think I'll increase either tonight or tomorrow morning so I can monitor him during the day. I don't know why I'm so nervous! And why I think 1 unit is so much more than .75! It's only .25 more. I'm weird, I guess, haha!

Increase in the morning. Some cats respond to an increase in the very first cycle. So better to increase in the day so you don't have to be up at night testing! :)

Good luck with the increase!

Good idea. That's always so confusing to me. I mean, if there's a depot, why would the cat respond to an increase right away? It's so confusing.

I think the reason why some respond on the first dose of an increase is because you are adding some insulin to the depot that was already established. So the cat responds right away. I wonder if Quincy is dropping lower at night. He’s always yellow at +2 but then you see a pink at amps. Even with SLGS you need to get some mid cycle tests at night or else you only have half of the picture. When the +2is the same or lower than the PMPS the kitty might very well go lower at nadir. For example, On 2/3 it would have been good to get a test at +4-7. Do you goto bed at +2?

He may very well be going lower at night. Another reason I'm nervous to increase. I do go to bed at +2 and I really can't do more night tests due to the medication that I take. I know this isn't ideal but it's EXTREMELY hard to get nighttime tests for me. So I'm also nervous to increase to 1 unit because if he drops lower at +2 it will be hard for me to get up and test him though not impossible.

Can you change your shot time to earlier? The night tests would not need to be often. Another thing that would help is to get an auto feeder and set it to feed her at +4 and +6 if the +2 is lower than the PMPS.

Hugs for you & good luck for Quincy on the increase. She needs it.... You can do this..... Just breathe. :bighug:

Your spreadsheet shows a lower # consistently at +2 pm (not huge), and I really don't see any history as to Quincy dropping into an area of concern since January. BUT if, by chance, you could set an alarm for +5/6 pm (a lot of us do this--half asleep) to get a quick test in, it would help.

There is always the chance of "New Dose Wonkiness" where numbers could be inconsistent and/or late to show effect of new dose. Happened to me a lot. I'm sure there will be more experienced members here to explain further on that.

I'm not even sure that I should be responding, but I am rooting for you and Quincy.

Thank you so much!

Good catch. I still think he’s dropped lower at night. Not enough for a reduction but possibly for a bounce. It’s not safe to increase when you only have half of the picture.

So true. I'll try to work on night time tests, though it's hard. I just fed him some LC food so that should help.

Like I said, be strategic about setting an alarm. Don’t do it when high. If not sure whether to set an alarm post for advice. I’m glad you didn’t increase. Well done.

Could you please update your spreadsheet with the latest data? (good catch by the way:D). The SS is our essential tool to help you.
