02/09/2021 Salem PMPS 198

Thanks so much he doesn’t act sick but he’s diffently got diarrhea. And he doesn’t like me wiping he’s bottom . Last week he was constipated now for 2 days this is going on strange ?
 
Bandit had diarrhea for a few days in November. The S. Boulardii didn't help. We had to give her Flagyl (Metronidazole) and that stopped the diarrhea. While she had diarrhea, she wasn't going frequently. She was still pooping once a day or once in 36 hours but it was loose. It didn't affect her spirits or her appetite though!

My civvie had bad diarrhea last month. Going non-stop. We had to take her to the ER for fluids and an anti-biotic shot etc. We gave her Flagyl as well as Cefixime which helped. She had some vomiting last week and it turned out to be worms. Makes me wonder if the diarrhea was also caused by worms or her eating some plants/leaves/something that didn't agree with her.
 
I've used S. Boulardii for my cats when they've had diarrhea or mixed plain canned pumpkin in their food a teaspoon at a time. I hope you find something that works for Salem. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Confused what the article says in dosage it says one half of 250mg .
I bought the capsules so I can open them how much I give I guess half twice a day correct I cnt find on the box what the pills are ? Is all
Probiotics 250 mgs ?

I’m giving him half of half to start off with it says to slowky introduce to probiotics . If he’s b12 levels are low it will not work .

Did you buy s. boulardii? Does it say CFUs on the bottle (it'd be on the front and back usually - something like 5 Billion Viable Cells (that's what my bottle says)? 250mg of S boulardii is the same dose as 5 billion CFU.

Personally, I just slide the top of the pill off and dump half of it in each of my kitties food (they are both on therapeutic dose right now).

I found an old FDMB thread (linked here) where a few members say they give 1 pill (250mg or 5 billion CFU) twice a day when their kitty is actively having diarrhea.

I know @Marje and Gracie has used (or does use) s. boulardii so perhaps she can help answer any questions you have.

Tina: for diarrhea, use the emergency stop directions provided in the link in post 7 above which is 1/4 of a 250 mg cap (5b CFU) every two hours. I prefer Jarrow’s S. boulardi with MOS. I have used without MOS and with MOS and the latter works better. I use it in both my cats at a maintenance dose because it’s a good probiotic.

Unless these strips are wrong it says he’s keotones are .6 yesterday last night it was .4

You have to look at the strip 15 secs after salem has peed on it.
If you wait longer it gets darker.

I'm just going to see if someone can help with advice.

Is he eating?
How is he behaving, other than the diaraeh is he lethargic or has he been sick?
 
Now the strips are reading .4 for ketones he’s acting fine just hiding from me cause I been wiping him I guess he’s bum is sore . Last night we put him in the tub with warm soapy water . I’m not touching hes bum just wiping on the hairs around it cause he’s getting it on my floor. I have the machine. He’s sugar is fine it’s 99 . He’s going on days 2.5 with diaherra

When you next give salem some food, it would be a good idea to add a bit of water, with the diarreah he may get a little dehydrated and with ketones we want to make sure he is well hydrated.

Can you get some strips that are in date? They may give you a false reading if they are out of date.

Ordering them tonight . Thanks . Yes it scared me half to death . I will get them on Amazon tonight . I will be sure to add the water to hes food tonight . I was telling my DH I was worried abt him getting dehydrated too . Thanks ! Big scare that was .

Yes but we dint have the money yet still saving hrs going need a lot of work done . He’s sister Bella has really good teeth but Salem doesn’t and I use to brush he’s teeth .Weird Bella’s teeth are like new teeth . She always liked dry food . Salem always wanted canned food .

Yes but we dint have the money yet still saving hrs going need a lot of work done . He’s sister Bella has really good teeth but Salem doesn’t and I use to brush he’s teeth too . Weird Bella’s teeth are like new teeth . Salem always wanted can food Bella likes dry food . Cleans her teeth I guess .

When George's teeth were bad one of the things that happened was he got diarrea that's why I asked.

He went off his food too, wouldn't eat solid food because his teeth hurt.
I had to make cat food smoothie in the blender that he would kick up.

Dental work is so expensive.:-(
I hope it's not that that's causing his liquid poops and that it resolves.
 
I hope not too . We got so much going on now too but Salem’s health is important to je too , this virus stuff is a mess I’m praying everyday for everyone’s safety . But those strips I bought last year but hadn’t noticed they expired . It scared me to death then the next strip said .8 from .6 ? I m like somethings wrong ! Mommie panicked ! Thank God for this board ! Thanks everyone for your help ! Much appreciated ! I been running after Salem for 3 days now poor baby so sick it just ran out of him he cnt help it I know . DH said you haven’t done anything but concentrated on Salem for two days ! Lol that’s my big baby !
