Hi Bron... Can the occasional prawn spike your cat's sugar? We are on the first few days of a new insulin level, but I gave Nacho 2 prawns at lunch and his sugar is high tonight. I wasn't sure if it was new dose wonkiness or not... he seems to have a pattern of spiking a few days after the change of dosage @Bron and Sheba (GA)

There are virtually no carbs in ordinary prawns so they would not spike the BGs. As long as they didn’t have sauce on them they should be fine.
At +5 today you have 20.8 in the US SS which is showing up as lime green.

Its time for an increase in dose. I wouldn’t hold onto the dose longer than 6 cycles if you aren’t seeing any movement in the BGs.

Ok... I didn't think the prawns would be the problem... I feel he needs an increase too. Thank you xx

Tracey can you get a before bed test in each night?
At the moment we don’t know what is happening in the pm cycle. He could be dropping lower during the pm cycle and bouncing up higher the next day...at the moment we don’t know.
If the before bed test is much lower than the preshot, you may need to set the alarm and get up and check the BG hasn’t dropped too low.

Yea but the problem is I go to bed at 9 normally... I hopped yp one night at 12 and checked him. I guess I can do it tonight. I'm starting to feel really overwhelmed

What do you do if he drops low at night anyway? What's the course of action... decrease in insulin? I'm feeling ao lost

What time do you give the pm dose?
If you did a +2each night ....would that be feasible? You would get the + 2 and then if the +2 was lower than the preshot that is giving you a heads up that it could be an active cycle. That is when I would get up and test again a few hours later qto see it isn’t too low.

If you find the BG dropping too fast you would give some normal low carb food. If you found the BG was heading towards 68 I would feed and test again in 30 minutes. If the BG had dropped under 68 you give high carb food. If in doubt post and ask for help.
You don’t reduce the dose unless it drops under 68.

His insulin is at 6:45.... a +2 is feasible. Currently I'm lucky if I get him under anything in the pink zone. He was in the black yesterday and today at pmps

Ok so get a +2 every night and that would be very helpful.
When you say an active cycle what does that mean?
An active cycle is one that starts off at AMPS at say 350 and drops gradually over the next 6 hours to say 150 and then gradually goes back I up to around the same preshot number as the AMPS. In other words the insulin works to drop the BG down to lower numbers before it starts to wear off and then it goes back up again. If you look at Nachos SS at 1/8/21 that is an active cycle although we like to see the BG drop a bit lower at nadir, but it will give you the idea.

23.8 2.5 hours in xx
That is a drop of 74
I would say he is going to drop lower than that this cycle.
Are you able to get up and test him later in the cycle.? I don’t think he is going to drop really low but it would be interesting to see how low he drops....good data.
