01/31 MISSY PMPS 270, +2 319

Ok. Let's see if she dips her toe in green today. Easy on the MC (unless absolutely essential). Let's see how low she goes on this dose and whether she needs an increase or not.

A little LC every hour should keep her going down gently.

Sounds good. I will give her a little LC now. She hasn’t had anything since AMPS. I’m sure you’ll be off to bed soon so I will watch her today and I will not intervene. unless she drops below 70 or 80 right? I know we really need to see how low she is going to be able to make a safe decision on her dosing.

Sorry one more question.... how often do you think I need to test her? Keep in mind sometimes she can drop fast.

Since Missy tends to dip at onset, I would suggest that you break her morning meal into smaller meals and feed her at AMPS, +1 and +2. Then if you need, you can feed her a spoon of LC every now and then to keep her surfing.

I will be around for another hour or so. @tiffmaxee will be here if you need help later in the cycle.

You can test every hour till +5/+6 if you'd like. :)
Feed her a little LC after every test to keep her surfing.

ETA: Your thread title still says 185 at +3

I just edited thread. And yes will do I will test every hour and feed a little LC after each one till +5, or +6.
So if she drops below 70 or 80 is that when I should be giving a teaspoon of MC?

Yes I agree... that is what I have been doing. I have not been feeding her full meal at AMPS....I have been feeding smaller meals more frequently (like today once per hour).

Depends on when the 70 or 80 comes. If you see that earlier in the cycle, MC may be required to slow the drop. But those are pretty safe numbers for later in the cycle. We want her nadirs to be in that range or even lower.

Very nice. Was waiting for her +4. Looks she will be okay. No sudden drops this cycle.

Am off to bed. Good night! :-)

Missy is doing great today. +5 she is at 119. She just ate 1 tsp on LC turkey pate 4%. I will retest again in one hour. :)

Good evening everyone...
Missy had a good AM cycle. She surfed blues....
PMPS she is 270.

Any suggestions how often I should test? I usually like to get a +2 she likes to dive sometimes and I can catch it by then. What do you think? :)

Bounce! Take a break from testing till AMPS. We may need to think about a dose increase. Let's give it 10 cycles after that fur shot.

Yes, though you may want to increase in an AM cycle rather than the PM. Some cats respond to the increase in the first cycle of the increase.

Let me ask @tiffmaxee if you're good for an increase tomorrow AM itself.

Ok I just have a few questions.

1. Is it safe to wait only 9 cycles after a fur shot... especially since I've been intervening too much with low carb food before she's below 70 or 80?
2. What can I expect when we increase? Will she be more sleepy? Have a greater tendency to dive more?

I understand this has to happen... I'll be honest I just recently started getting used to all of this and getting the hang of what I need to do and when. I also just started getting used to her schedule. Are the changes drastic? I will do whatever I have to do for her... I am just curios what I am in for.

Thanks for your help!

I'm not a 100% sure that was a fur shot because she saw low blues 3 cycles after. Which is why I wondered if it was okay to increase right away.

We hope that she will see more green with the increase and clear bounces faster. To prevent dives, you feed her at +1 and +2 in addition to PS.
Till they get regulated, cats can feel a little out of sorts with the highs and the lows - especially the lows since they have gotten used to higher numbers. Once they get used to lower numbers they are in fact, more active!

Feeding lc is not intervening. If you were propping up with mc or hc it would be different. When was the fur shot? I can’t find it on your ss. You can wait 10 cycles.

I think she meant she was intervening with higher carbs when Missy came near 100. "Possible" Fur shot was on the AM of 1/27.

Also the LC I feed her now is 4%. Is that ok?? I’m trying to determine if she’s allergic to Fancy Feast Pate as she’s been vomiting up lots of hairballs and ultrasound showed a very mild inflammation in small intestine. I feed her now Wellness No Grain Pate Complete Health. Turkey,
Chicken or beef/chicken. All are 4% carb. This was the food she was eating before she was diagnosed and we switched to FF.

I switched because this is what the FDMB Facebook group recommended. Also I had no idea up until then what foods had carbs and which ones didn’t. I basically knew nothing about feline diabetes at all. Everything I’ve learned has just been since Dec 2/2020.

It wasn’t until recently that I realized I was feeding low carb to begin with.

Do you still think it’s ok to increase tomorrow morning? I can wait one more day if necessary. Also what would I increase to?

Yes. Most people feed high carb kibble and we recommend FF because it is LC canned and affordable.

Yes. Take the increase. To 1.25U
