Hi everyone!

Not quite sure what's going on this morning. I don't recall seeing this pattern before

AMPS 277
+2 292
+4 371

She usually starts to trend downward around now.
This morning when I gave her shot it felt a little different. Almost like it was a fur shot. But I am so careful to never do this. I separate her hair and look for the skin... which I'm pretty sure I did. When I gave the shot it kinda felt different almost like it didn't go into the skin. I looked very carefully at the area to see if I could see any wet spots and I also smelt the area because I figured it I did screw up and gave a fur shot I would at least smell it..Lantus really has a stink. I couldn't see any wet spot and I couldn't smell anything.

But now I am second guessing myself again because she is climbing when she should be going down.:(

I will monitor her today and I will also keep a watch on the ketones as well. Thankfully since starting insulin the ketones haven't been a concern.

What do you think is going on????? Is this normal???

Thanks for your help!

Yes. It happens. The numbers can and do bobble from high to higher when kitty is bouncing and/or if they decide they are done with a dose. I've seen this on butters' spreadsheet many many times, fwiw!
Keep in mind 20% meter variance with numbers, and suddenly those numbers that you saw today are much closer together.:bighug:
It doesn't sound like you gave a fur shot. And I always used to think I gave fur shots when butters' numbers would bobble higher. This is where the proverbial "patience pants" come in. Missy just saw green yesterday. She could be bouncing. I suggest you take a poke break until PMPS:cat::bighug:.

Great advice... and thanks for sharing your experience with Butters. I don’t feel worried as much anymore. We will just see how she is and I will test again at PMPS.

Seeing that I’m talking to you I have looked at Butters spreadsheet many times and been so impressed with your dedication to test as often as you do when it’s needed. As I have been learning I test a lot and now I can see that it wasn’t necessary. I guess I just needed more experience to be confident she wasn’t going to go low and have a hypo situation. Being new to this I just didn’t know what to expect. I’m starting to finally figure her out.
Missy is sooooo easy going, so sweet and easy to test. I’m so lucky. There have been days as you can see on her spreadsheet I’ve had to test hourly, like yourself. Any tips on how to care for their ears? Missy has lost hair on the backs of her ears and I have been testing on the backside. It’s soooo much easier and she prefers this as well. Still I want to always make sure she’s not in any pain or discomfort. I always apply a little bit of pressure afterwards. She’s never had scabs or bruising thankfully but is there anything else I can do to keep her ears feeling good. Since starting insulin the hair is finally starting to grow back :)

Look at her spreadsheet (it sometimes helps to minimize it so you can see more of it at one time)

Pretty much every time she goes into blues/greens, they are followed by a few cycles of pinks.

She's just being her usual bouncing baby girl.

Hi!

Regarding the hairballs, I noticed that Missy is long haired...beautiful :cat: We have had 2 long hair kitties (Elie and our civvie Jasper) and we found we needed to brush them a lot to help reduce hairballs. Every day, ideally, but at least every few days. Each season, a good furmination with a special brush too. We could have made several sweaters out of the hair we got  Elie had a heavy undercoat too, so needed more than Jasper.

anyhow, good luck with Dr. Ina :) I hope you like her!

Regarding the ears, I use one ear per day and rub a little coconut oil on the ear I'm not using. I switch back and forth like that. I can't say it does wonders for healing but it does something and it's better than nothing.

Hi there
I called Dr. Ina’s office.... they are accepting new clients :):) I just have to get her records transferred somehow. I just don’t want to tell my current vet and get him p’oed. He is still needed for my bunnies.
Thanks again for the recommendation. I’m excited to meet her. :bighug:

Great idea... I should try that too. Coconut oil is so healing. I gave Missy 1/4 teaspoon of coconut oil tonight mixed in her food to help with the hairballs. Unfortunately, the other hairball remedies have too much sugar. Hopefully it will help. Thanks for the advice

hairballs
I can't remember what condos I've posted this on as hairballs seem a popular topic :p but in case I haven't posted here, egg yolk is supposed to help. I buy it from FoodFurLife (they are out of stock but are promising to restock soon) and they have a recipe to make your own too. Here's their blog on hairballs and it includes links to their product and a recipe. Hope that helps :bighug:

Missy continued to have a high day today. Don’t know if it’s due to a fur shot or bounce. We’ll see how she is tonight. :)

Missy has had quite the drop in only 3 hours. She went from 416 to 248. I think I will need to check on her for a bit just to be safe. Do you agree? :)

Sounds good. No problem. Ive been through this a few times now so I’m pretty sure I can handle it tonight. Thanks for your help!! Have a great night :)

I’ll be up for another 30 mins to an hour. What time is +3 or +4?

That test will help determine what the plan for the evening is and when you can sleep :bighug:

She’s just past +4 (at 11pm).
She is now at +4.25 and she is 230. she just finished eating at 11pm so 20 min ago. I’m thinking she will go up in maybe 30 min. I will retest.
you don’t have to stay up with me. I’m good. I can manage her. Bhooma should be around in a bit if I have a question. I also don’t mind waking up... I have a hard time sleeping when I know she could be dropping a bit. :)
