Yesterday. Some finickiness is being exhibited this morning among the cat population chez Katherine. It's impossible to get FF Turkey & Giblets these days and it seems Olive is not into the Sheba version. I had a can of Weruva Steak Frites that I wanted to get rid of from the pantry and it looks like Ruby isn't into it either. Gah.

Healing thoughts to all of the sick kitties and hugs to you beans who love them so. Have a good start to the week, everyone! :bighug::bighug:

lol:rolleyes:. Sometimes I think Butters believes I exist only to be her personal chef. I feel your pain. Good luck with finding that exact right food that each cat wishes to eat today.:bighug:

Thanks, everyone. Olive is still digging her heels in and I am being a bit more stubborn with her to force her to eat the Sheba as I bought a case of it and there is no alternative. With Ruby I've mixed the Steak Frites with a BFF pate, and her Highness finds that to be acceptable. :)

Morning Katherine, it's getting ridiculous that we can't find any cat food, I have been searching for the FF Beef Pate. I have been to my Shop Rite and stop and shop supermarkets ,all different locations and they have sh*t
It's pissing me off. I do have other flavors he likes so when ever I go I grab some more.
That one flavor Tyler doesn't like is the Turkey and Giblets
I hope we both find what we are looking for soon. I know Purina is having trouble sourcing ingredients. Well they better work harder lol
I hope Ruby surfs safely, kisses for her ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

It's a little crazy, Diane. There are a lot of fish flavors available of FF at the Pet Smart in Seacaucus but a lot of the brands that use beef and poultry are out.

good luck getting ruby to eat what's on offer today.
i swear, these kitties have a clandestine board where they discuss snack and gravy getting tactics.
here, kit has been snubbing her dish until a little bit of ff salmon appears

Spoke to the vet about the sub-Q prescription. Last condo about it here. He said that Ruby's proBNP result in December shows that her heart is in good condition and he did not detect any heart murmur. He also said that he was only suggesting 100 ml once a week to start because her blood values were just a touch high, so he was being conservative. He said I could do it more than once a week and it would not hurt. I think I'm going to start her off on this slowly, because she tolerates being poked but not being forced to sit still for 10 minutes with a big needle in her. So I might just do 25 mls to see how well she tolerates it and work our way up to 100 ml in a few weeks. Would love to hear thoughts from anyone here who's had experience with sub-Q.

I'm still not sure why you are starting fluids so early. Good to know her heart has been checked though.

I started doing fluids in the bathroom. It's a small room, and I could hang the fluids from the shower bar. The higher the fluids, the faster it flows. I also used the thin wall needles and slightly thinner gauge which meant slower flow but easier to poke. I have a heat reflective pad that I put in front of a hot air vent and sprinkled liberally with freeze dried chicken treats. Neko had no problem hanging out there. Often when I was done, she'd stay there for a while even after I was finished. It's like the conditioning you do for BG tests. Find a pleasant environment to do it. When weather got warmer, I'd take the fluids out to our solarium (aka. cat sun room) and hang them from the door. Neko didn't even have to move anywhere. For real squirmers, the EZIVharness is an option.

Thanks, Wendy. The videos for the harness are intense! Ruby's pretty calm though. I think if I will proceed I'm going to do it on the couch, as that's where Her Highness prefers to be poked and to get her shots and to be fed. My DBF is 6 foot 2, so he's volunteered to hold the bag. :) The vet seemed to think the sub-Q would be helpful to bring that creatinine down. They gave me 18 gauge needles that look HUGE and scary but it also means the fluids would flow quicker.

Honestly, I'm really torn about this. Have asked the folks over at Tanya's site for their advice as well.

No way I was going to use the 18g harpoons from my vet, fortunately they had some 21g for me. Even 20 is better. The Terumo thin walls went in pretty easily.

I've seen people use coat racks, you can even buy IV poles. I put the bag on a coat hanger and hung that on whatever was convenient. Then I could just hang the bag and line in a spare closet until I needed it again.

Some people find there cat's BG goes lower if they shoot the insulin nearby to where the fluids went in, and that's near in terms of time and location. I shot fluids in the scruff and insulin in the side when doing it. And I tried so separate the two by a few hours. Giving fluids after nadir when she was on her way up worked.

Thanks for all of the tips! I will order the Terumos if they will be more comfy for Ruby. I did read somewhere else that BGs might go lower on the fluids. I move Ruby's shot around between her two shoulders and her thighs so moving it to her thighs on sub-q day wouldn't be a problem.

I guess the question right now for me is: will this help Ruby? The vet seems to think it can't hurt, but I also don't want to put her through it if it will have no result.

Sorry to hear about the FF turkey and giblets :( I actually have a flat of it in our cupboard that Cosmo seems allergic to. We stopped feeding it to him a year or so ago, as it caused BM and skin issues. I wonder if I can mail it to you? Canada to the USA. Wonder if it would work? I also have chicken and liver. Hmmm...it expires July 2021.
