I had adjusted Jax's food back a little bit to try to keep him around 14lbs...and it turns out a took away too much as he went down half a pound in a few days. Pretty sure that's what helped along to his little reduction. In any case, added back some of his food (food math hurts my head:p) and we shall see about his dose in a few cycles :cat:

lol so much brain hurting though I'm only dealing with two cans of food that are basically the same amount calories. I should be able to do better lol. I feel like you have more of a free pass since you're doing raw :p
 
Morning Susanne, I'm sure Jax will like the little bit of extra food.
I have to weigh Tyler today, last weight was 18 lbs and he still has to lose some more. He was a 23 pounder before diagnosed, then down to 18 when diagnosed.
Little by little he went up to to about 19.
Just weighed him now 17.8
He has a vet visit coming up in Feb so will see what her scale days.He hasn't been to my vet in about 10 months for a check up. I might make them do some blood work too
When I weigh him I just weigh myself first then pick him up and weigh him
like that.
I hope the reduction holds and we see a nice green surf today


He is a big boy , then when he loses weight I get nervous lol

Yowsa, Tyler! I think in Jax's heyday (many moons ago), he was 20. He's been 15 for awhile (pre-dx) and I was going to try to keep him around 14 (he got down to 13 when unregulated). Clearly, Jax is in charge so we shall see where he falls. I'm sure I'm going to be going back to giving him his regular food amount. We did switch from dry to wet with FD so that's been a change for all of us.
 
Andddd yes Jax you are in fact in charge...he was 80 at +3 (and had a nice LC snack!) but then was meowing....and was 63 thirty minutes later. Realllll cute.
 
Oooh I hope Jax paces himself a little! :cat:

Simba was a solid 18 pounds back in September, then dropped to 14 in a very short amount of time and was diagnosed quite soon after. I'd like to see him back in his ideal weight of 13.5lbs :)

Trueeee. Just here to help cover example scenarios :p And it helps he meows usually when he drops....though when he was <50 the other day, he was asleep :joyful: Also those morning blues are generally on mornings when he poops? IDK if any causation but there is correlation. I finally got s boulardii was going try to switch Jax from Miralax to it.

Interesting. I’d start the s boulardii but don’t stop Miralax so fast. It won’t hurt to give both. Have you also tried canned pumpkin?

I tried pumpkin before the Miralax and it didn't seem to soften his stool whereas the Miralax did the trick...so I haven't given pumpkin since finding the magic miralax dose. Perhaps I'll just try this s boulardii with his current miralax and will keep an eye on his stool.
 
I like the S. boulardii. I think it takes a while to populate in the gut, but that with the powdered egg yolk has finally gotten Ruby on a daily poopy schedule.

I forgot about the powdered egg. That’s really good. I tried to give to my current one who has occasional hairballs but I think she might have an allergy to eggs along with all her others. I bought the EZ Complete. I need to start giving it to my other one as I’ve added raw primal chicken and I think it has more bone.

He gets powdered egg yolk already - I give 1/8t twice a day...I think I can give up to 1/4t bid but he seemed to stick is nose up to it when I increased (haven't tried to increase in awhile though). I give it for hairballs and his dandruff - his coat is so much better (well and regulated BG helps). I think I'll try adding in s boulardii and see where that takes us.

I only give ⅛ tsp right now because the cats were throwing up with more but maybe I was rushing the dose. The ⅛ tsp seems to be working so I don’t think I need to push it. Have been corresponding with Laurie at Food Fur Life about the phosphorus in the powdered yolk and she said it was only 13 mg of phosphorus for ¼ tsp twice a day, so it’s safe for CKD kitties.

i made a little spreadsheet for kit with some simple formulas.
inputs are ideal weight which computes the needs for the day/number of snacks and then has variable inputs for quantities of particular foods with the calories/carbs as constants

While this is right up my ally, I have not done it though I have the data...he only eats two kinds of foods and they have the same calories basically (I don't worry too much about his gravy days since we don't have those much). What formula are you using for ideal weight? I had been doing 20 x weight but Jax is gaining on that formula (he likes his naps). I wasn't careful when I decreased so I didn't do math until after the fact to realize it was too much. I think I'm just going to go back to the amounts I was feeding and perhaps try again in a few days when he levels off again.

and a feature waaaaaay below the fold, i.e. some place in line before the catmate roomba, but still happily approaching never ...
before we settled on a couple of kinds, i had a fantasy plan of putting a larger number of options into a data source sheet and then using vlookup to pull particulars into the calculation sheet based on food name ..... but ... i'm lazy and joji has great patience for actually reading data sets and making decisions ;)​
