01/17 - MISSY PMPS 360, 333 +2, 279 +4

Ok here we go again today with another quick drop between +2 and +4. She went from 221 to 104. I am trying to really be calm today because I know these are the numbers I really want Missy to spend more time in.

I have given her 1/4 can Fancy Feast Pate and two teaspoons of Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers. I will retest in 30 min. Is this correct or should I retest sooner?

EDIT— retested after 30 min. She held the 104. Do I leave her or give her anymore medium carb food? She also had a few pieces of dried chicken and 4 temptation treats.

Am I on the right track? What can I expect here? I started TR yesterday after she dropped quite quickly from 187 to 66. I intervened too quickly because she refused high carb food and her BG was still dropping even after feeding medium carb. I don't want a repeat of yesterday.

Please stick around to support me please... I want to do this right this time.

Thank you ;)

If you can, stay away from the temptations for now. They are very high carb.

You may want to think about how you can feed her to slow down these fast drops. Whenever you see her lower at +2 than her preshot, I've give her a small meal so she has fresh carbs on board for onset.

The good news is that she's getting over bounces really quickly. :)

I don’t quite know what to change how I feed her. Do you have any suggestions? Right after her AMPS I give her 1/2 can of FF pate with 1 teaspoon of water mixed in it. That has always been ok and kept her numbers fine.
I’m not sure how and what I would change up things to avoid the drastic drop. It seems to come on out of the blue. It’s happened twice now since starting insulin on Dec 30th. 3 times including today but today the drop wasn’t as drastic.

can you make any suggestions? I’m just learning all this and working my way through it. :)

You would feed a higher but still low carb food - so something between 5% and 10%. Fancy Feast Pates are pretty low carb (I think all are 4% or less). By having a few more carbs on board, the idea is the drops won't be as great.

These are examples you may want to check out (just ones I can personally think of but I'm sure there are others...) -
Henry's spreadsheet. - look at the remarks, but he feeds Henry 7% usually at AMPS/PMPS
Ruby's BG Spreadsheet -look at the remarks, particularly end of 2020 - Katherine would feed higher carb (8%)

I think we are making progress. I have managed to keep her nicely in the blues for this little drop. So I am happy :D I am continuing to monitor her closely. Because I did not hear from the message board in time and she was at 95 @ +5.5 I went ahead and gave her 2 tbs of high carb 18% food. I did this because I was concerned she would get too full from the frequent feeding and wouldn't eat when and if I needed her to if BG dropped even more. I mixed 2 tbs of HC 18% with 1/4 of FF pate otherwise she wouldn't eat it. At +6.25 she was still nicely at 106. I think this has been successful, would you all agree? Her NADIR used to be at +6 but recently its been moving around and can be as late as +9 so I will continue to watch her closely.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! :)

Next time you see her drop into the greens, try a little of her regular instead of high carb. We typically reserve high carb for much lower numbers. 95 is still a very safe number.

Wow! Greens two days in a row! Soon you will find these numbers too high for your liking! ;)
Glad you decided to take the plunge with TR!

I’m getting more comfortable each day and so is Missy. She did great today. Not sure what to expect for her BG at PMPS and what tonight will look like. This little girl can be a bit unpredictable. I will keep you posted. :)

Ok well this was a bit of a surprise.... she had quite the spike from +8.75 176 to PMPS 360. WHAT IS GOING ON???
She had such a good day. Is this from another low day?. She didn't eat anything she shouldn't have. At +8.75 she had a little snack of FF pate beef so that she could fast comfortably 2 hours before her PMPS. I don't know what to expect tonight.... and I don't like these erratic spikes and drops so quickly. No wonder she was sleepy. This must be hard on her. :( How long does this usually go on for.

Thank you for the advice!!!:bighug:

She is just bouncing and that's very normal. She is clearing the bounces much faster on 1U and that's very good. She will bounce less with time. Don't worry about them.
Get a +2 or +3 tonight and you should be able to call it a night!

Hi again,
Ok here is what Missy is doing this evening.
- PMPS 360
- +2 333
- +4 279

Its bedtime for her now. I usually give her a little snack before bed and that is usually 1/2 can FF pate. Is that ok still? Or do you recommend a medium carb food? I kinda know what to do when the numbers go low but I am not too sure what to do in a situation like this. I will very likely check her again at +6 and depending on what that is I will decide if I will get one at +8 or +9. I know its probably not necessary but I don't mind and I really get concerned about her diving low in the night. I am thinking she doesn't really need any med carb food but I just want to check and see if I am on the right track.

Thank you :)
