Leo bounced again today. We are worried about his PM numbers. He's been "Hi" (500+) before the PM shot, and hasn't gone down yet after 3 hours. He's drinking a lot but acting normally. Trying to test his ketones as soon as we have him pee in the hydrophobic litter.

There are ways to mitigate the low numbers with food, but what to do about him being so high in the last few hours? We gave him 0.5U in the evening the same way we have in the last few days.

The glucometer with test strips we purchased is arriving tomorrow. For now we have to do with the Freestyle Libre.

Thank you!

I'm going to tag @Bron and Sheba (GA) to take a look at your SS. Not sure if an increase is needed.
No I wouldn’t increase the dose.
If you look at the SS you will see that Leo is dropping down into the greens and then bouncing up about every 4 or 5 cycles.
If you increased the dose he would drop too low.

Are you feeding during the cycles as well as before the shots?

If you look at this mornings numbers you can see he dropped a large amount between +1 and +3. And then a further large amount to 92 at +5. Both those drops were enough to trigger a bounce. And if you look at other cycles you will see the same thing.
So what you can do is to try and stop the big drops from happening and triggering the bounces.
You do this by feeding the curve (or drop) to try and stop the big drops in BGs from happening.

So what I would suggest you do is this........you can see that the bounces last around 4 cycles....so be on the look out for falling numbers. If you see them falling try and feed before a big drop if you can. Normal low carb snacks will do. And get a +1 and + 2 as that is when the insulin kicks in.
It is trial and error and you will be gathering data and you won’t always catch the drops. But if you can get him safely down to lower numbers without the big drops you will have more chance of him staying in the lower numbers.
My Sheba was a terrible diver and bouncer...a world champion! And I used to feed the curve to get her safely down to lower numbers and if I could, she had beautiful numbers, until she freaked out again and bounced.

Leo is still very need to FD and bouncing is very normal so don’t worry about it. Some cats are bouncier than others. Some bounce only for a short time and others bounce all the way to remission.

Definitely do not increase, the 0.5 unit got him down to "Lo" a few nights ago. You should actually be reducing the dose to 0.25 units.

Ignore the highs tonight, tomorrow's another day.
