Hercules threw me a surprise this morning. I am home and have testing strips. Shoot the full dose 0.75, of half, or none?

Sorry I cannot stay with you, on my way to bed, but you could try stalling. So do NOT feed, and test in 15-20 minutes to see if he's on his way up. Experienced people following TR, who can monitor and have HC and strips would shoot the full dose. But the board may be quiet for you the next little while. @Bandit's Mom @Bron and Sheba (GA) are on though.

No worries Wendy. I unfortunately panicked and fed him. I know I should stall, but it was so low.... I did double test before feeding, so the value is an average of 3.6 and 3.1 on two separate measurements.

Next time, stall and don’t feed and see if the BG comes up on its own. It’s the end of the cycle and the insulin is wearing off so it should start to come up on its own without food. I know it can be scary the first few times seeing a green preshot and the temptation is to feed.

Normally you would gradually reduce your no shoot number as you collect data and see what Hercules does as you shoot lower preshots. That’s why gathering data is so important.
At this point I would need to see more data before I would say to shoot if the number stayed the same or dropped.
Sometimes the number will go down because the cat is needing food, not because the insulin is still working.
And it would depend what the preshot BG is. And if you are available to monitor that cycle,
So when it happens again, I would stall, don’t feed and test again in 20 minutes to see if the BG is on the rise. While you are waiting, post and ask for help. Always make sure you have HC food and plenty of test strips available.

Well done for shooting the whole dose! Simba’s given me two green pre-shots and I’ve only done half of his usual dose. :nailbiting:

+2 216

and up he climbs.... anyone wants to take guesses how far he will go?

I think I am ok to leave him now until +5 or so? just in case he decides to surprise me again?

Nice AMPS, Karen :D And great job, shooting! This post about shooting a dropping number may be a good read now - I may have posted it before (but it's one of my all time favorites :p) - even if Hercules isn't rising at shot time, you can still shoot (provided you have supplies and can monitor). And think about what Hercules would have done today if you hadn't shot a full dose - great data and info you have gathered!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

So, he seems to be backing down again... +6 @176

I just couldn't resist having a check, he has been very unpredictable...
short-lived bounce? just complete crazyness? he is jealous of Simba?

Wow, great job shooting that 61, Karen! Great also that you knew how Hercules would react with a bounce. Bravo! Hope his liver graduates from training school soon. :p

He is still going down.... He just came by and insisted he hasn't eaten a single thing the wholde day and was starving....
I checked him and he is a bit more down. I gave him a tbs LC because I am a sucker.... and because I am wondering about PMPS....

Maybe Lantus will do the trick as far as regulating him and even possibly the R word! One can always hope! :)

It is good you fed him. If he is clearing the bounce, there will be additional downward momentum and you want a PMPS you can shoot. If you need help for PMPS, tag @tiffmaxee

ETA: Sometime, Bandit can sense a drop coming and really hounds me for food. I have learnt not to ignore that!

festival = good food....I am food oriented, so I love an excuse to eat good food! I had pongal before and is delish!
Have a good night!

I hope Hercules gets off the rollercoaster and joins Simba for a nice smooth ride down into green numbers more often. Although I can't say Simba's has been smooth! More like a skydive :D

+11.5 is 248. So I guess is full dose again, and nightly adventures....

He seems to have shifted his nadir towards later, perhaps +8? or am i seeing things?

Nightly adventures over here too :coffee::coffee::coffee:
I am still very uneducated about interpreting nadirs, so I can't comment on that.

he has had some in that region. But also he nadired at +12 today and +4 on Jan 13. So a little all over the place. Until he is very well regulated the nadirs do move around, you'll probably find that he has a nadir which is more usual for him, but he will still nadir at other times.

One of my favorites too.

Congrats on shooting your first green.
here's the coveted BOS award
