1/15 Pearl AMPS +259, +1 232 +2 144 - didn't catch the drop

Good morning!

Well, I didn't catch Pearl's drop and we are off to the races! Last night I had tried giving the MC food at PS feeding time under hypothesis that most cycles she drops quickly - that did NOT work well, see her PM cycle numbers.

This morning is another story. I held off the on MC food until I saw the drop...and it is too fast and too much drop. She is going to bounce AGAIN, argh! I think I will need to start checking at 30 min intervals if I don't see her drop at +1 from now on, if I intend to hold off on the MC until I see evidence of the drop starting. Or maybe the drop WAS starting at AM +1 today and I wasn't convinced it was "really" a drop starting.

Have a good day everybody!

I don't know if you should be killing yourself over her bounces and feeding the drops. She is new to low numbers and will be extra bouncy. She should hopefully settle down with time. :-)

Killing myself...definitely should not be! I do need to settle down there and be OK with the drops, it's not like they are going to magically stop!

Feeding the drops...I would like to see if this helps reduce her dives. If it does and she can flatten out some, I would love that. If it doesn't seem to help I can abandon the test :)

Good mornign and thank you!

I commend you, Margaret, for taking the suggestions to heart on stopping the drop. The frustrating thing is that none of us can tell you exactly what to feed to make it happen so the experimentation can involve some overcarbing. I did it many, many times before I found what worked and sometimes, I had to change it up depending on the amount of the drop.

A few things to note that need to be considered. I see a lot of new members do this and we did it, too, but it’s we often tend to take the drop over an hour or two hours and assume it will be the same. In other words, Members will observe that between PS and +2, kitty dropped 120 mg/dL so must be dropping 60 an hour. Rarely is that true. Kitty might have dropped 20...or even none...between PS and +1 and then took a nosedive. We have to train ourselves to realize that the drop per hour is variable.

Your thoughts are correct; when you saw a similar number between AMPS and +1, that’s an indication there will likely be a drop of some sort at onset. We would expect a food spike at +1.

Jill taught me, and many people, how to manage the curve with food. Take a read through and let me know if you have questions.

BTW, you did a very good job of getting the brakes on between +2 and +3!

You are doing an amazing job :bighug:! The variability is definitely a frustrating thing at times :banghead: but way to keep your persistence & determination to find any predictability that you are able to with this process :)!!

Best with today’s journey :bighug::bighug::cool:!!

You are doing fabulously. FD is lots of trial and error. When in the cycle does she get prednisolone and how often does she get it? That too might contribute to her bouncing and perhaps it’s timing can be used to her advantage at some point.

When you get a chance would you please add that he’s on prednisolone and other meds she takes to your signature? Thanks.

Thanks very much for these suggestions. In the past couple of days, the variables continue to mount, and she seems to be bouncing and clearing sometimes within the same cycle. It's a roller coaster. Perhaps I should not do the MC food for now until I see how often she is clearing bounces on this new dose of 1.75U? Or I could be trying a tsp of MC food to start with. Thank you again!
