01/14 Boomer GA one year later

So many new names on the board now; most of you won’t know me. I had to say good-bye to my sweet boy, Boomer, one year ago today. We were able to manage his diabetes for 6 years but it was cancer that took him from us.

I can’t believe it’s only been a year since I last held him and got to kiss his cute little face.

Boomer adopted us by coming to our door and refusing to leave (we had four kitties at the time and really didn’t want a 5th). But he was persistent and we relented. He was about 9 months old at the time.

And what a sweet boy he was! He fit in well with our other kitties, he understood that he was the “junior” and I think he was just happy to not be cold and hungry any longer and to get as many head pats and scratches as he wanted. As we lost our other kitties one by one, Boomer’s personality came out. He had previously tried to sleep beside me but my little baby Snickers wouldn’t let him. The night after we said goodbye to Snickers, Boomer crept up my side of the bed tentatively, not sure of his place. Of course I put my arm around him and cried, happy for the comfort that he had offered me.

My favourite memory……well I had been making wee pillows to help pose the newborn babies that I used to photograph and I decided that Boomer wanted a pillow. I made him a wee plaid one. Placed it on the living room rug and he went right over to it and laid his head on it! I also remember telling Dr Larry this story as I held Boomer before we let him go.

Boomer certainly enjoyed his fuds! Half an hour before his dinner time he would come into the living room and sit nearby. 15 minutes later he would move closer and another 10 minutes after that he would jump up on the arm of the couch and stare at me. I guess that he didn’t trust that I would remember to feed him lol. But don’t get me wrong…he wouldn’t eat just anything! Monday’s favourite food wouldn’t be at all acceptable on Tuesday! Of course it’s well known that a Bean should never ever buy more than a few cans of a certain food because the kitty will then take an instant dislike to it.

Those of you that know me may remember that I did (and still do) a lot of wildlife photography. After Boomer passed, I noticed that wherever I went there seemed to be a Northern Cardinal singing away. Not unusual seeing a Cardinal in January but it is unusual to hear them singing in January. I always, always, stopped to listen and to say thank you. Not sure whether I was thanking the Cardinal….or Boomer for sending them to me. Anyways…..each winter I’ve always had one pair of Cardinals that stayed and visited my yard for seed. This winter I have 8 Cardinals!!!! Thank you Boomer!

One day I will be reunited with all my fur babies......Taffy and Rascal, Peanut and Spanky, Snickers, Allen and Boomer. Until then....my memories keep me smiling and laughing and yes crying too. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

What a sweet tribute :bighug: thanks for introducing us to your sweetheart - it's clear how loved he was by your family. And I love that he insisted you all take him in...he knew your home was where he belonged :cat:

This is such a beautiful, touching tribute to read. Thank you for sharing it. I didn't know your boy but you describe him in such vivid detail that I feel like I have a real sense of what he was like. I love that he sends you cardinals just to let you know he is still there:bighug:. May his memory be a blessing.

Such beautiful pictures and memories of such a special fur baby :bighug::bighug:. It is SO nice to see that handsome face again :cat: & to hear that the many memories are keeping you smiling and laughing....(& some necessary cries at times as well). Thank you for posting this :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:!!

(((((Judy))))) I didn't know! I am so very sorry. Boomer and Bubba liked to do OTJ together and then meet up again for another "tour of duty" multiple times . It is never easy losing one of our babies. I do believe that the cardinals were sent to you from Boomer as he knows what a talented photographer you are!

Your memories made me cry... and one of yours I experienced with Bubba after Sug passed. She used to growl him down to the foot of the bed as her spot was at my right shoulder. The night she passed, he proudly became the "man". Just sensitivity from our big old boys!

Until you and your babies reunite again... hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

{{{Judy and DH}}} I miss hearing about Boomer and all your lovely photos of him. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I still get a chuckle out of the "box" on the floor with him in it. I hope you are doing well, and it's lovely to hear the cardinals are still sending you Boomer's messages.

So good to hear from you Judy. Miss you and Boomer. Can't believe its been a year. He looks like my Tux. I love all his photos, hard to pick a favorite for me. Each is special.

Hi Wendy, how are you?
I meant to include that story about the box and forgot it! I will add it below, with picture lol

Wendy @Wendy&Neko reminded me of a Boomer story that I forgot to include!
On Facebook there was a kitty challenge......using masking tape make an outline of a box on your floor or carpet. See if your kitty goes in it since most kitties love boxes. So I made a box. It took Boomer and Allen a bit of time....they both circled it.....then the following day they both layed down in the box. :joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful: Picture attached!

Hi Paula, how are you? How is your crew? Aren't tuxedo kitties handsome? I follow you on Facebook but I don't post much (well hardly anything) on my personal page, it's all on my photography page lol.

Hi Bobbie! Yeah Boomer and Bubba went back and forth a number of times, didn't they? How is the Bubster doing?

Judy this tribute brought tears to my eyes. I miss your Boomer too and your beautiful photos. :bighug:
Thanks Elise!
I miss him so much. And with the exception of about a month, it's been the first time since I was about 20 that I haven't had at least one kitty. There are times it feels very lonely.

Thanks Susanne. Yes somehow he knew that he had found a safe place when he came to our door, and that we would take care of him.

Thanks Lyla. I see you are from Ontario....I am too! I am in London.

Oh, Judy. I remember you both but dont think I knew that Boomer had passed as I rarely came on when Gremlin was super stable. I'm so very sorry. I'm glad you came on and posted this though, it's lovely to hear of him again and see all the gorgeous photos! I hope you are well :bighug:

((((Judy))))
I can't believe it's been a year, either. I miss Boomer along with you.

I love that you have cardinals that visit. I have a pair that sometimes nest in my courtyard. It's a very protected spot and it provides for wonderful cat TV.

Oh Judy...has it really been a year already? I remember the day you first told us...and now this tribute...so beautiful...so sad...you've got my eyes tearing up and my heart aching. He really is such a beautiful boy! And that personality!!! They do have a way of just breaking our hearts don't they?

I sure miss you and your Boomer... :(

Please stop by and see us from time to time...Luci is waving her white paw at you right now...she's slightly 'glow in the dark'...from her radioactive state...but she's sending beams (I think she really is) of love...well that could be beams of radiation...but we'll call it love beams...

Take care Judy! Stay warm and listen for the cardinals...I saw a beauty today as well... a rare sight here in Florida...I think they prefer the colder weather up north.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Sue and Luci! I hope Luci's treatment is successful! You don't have cardinals in Florida? I'm shocked lol.

Thanks Sienne. For a while Boomer would come stand beside me if I was at the door watching the feeder birds and he would want to be picked up. Better view of the birds I guess. Generally he watched the squirrels (and enjoyed watching the odd mouse that loved to hide under our hot tub just outside our back door)!
