Can New to Lantus cause Vomiting

Can Lantus cause vomiting

OK Pooty started her Lantus today (previously on 6u of vetsulin for about 1 year) first dose 745am amount about .25, using a caliper set at 7.31, 4 hours after her first dose she threw up just white froth. Chalked it up to maybe an upset tummy because I've made it 100% impossible for her to get into the dry food. Tested her a few times today after her am dose (sheet included) numbers have stayed within the same range. Tonight we tested she was in the 300s so she ate friskies chicken and Tuna pate got her shot while her face was in the bowl. Within 10 min after eating she threw up again, checked her BG and it's still right around the same 300s.

My question is can or does Lantus make a cat vomit, I'm hoping not since this morning it happened after 4 hours, tonight within 15 min and it's just a coincidence. I also just purchased ketone strips that'll be here Friday just to be safe.

Hello and welcome.

You didn't need to start a new spreadsheet, just put a blank line in between the last Vetsulin dose and starting Lantus, and label the line "start Lantus". It's good for us to be able to see the Vetsulin numbers too. If she's getting 6U of Vetsulin, 0.25 units of Lantus is way too low. We the dose of the existing insulin into consideration.

I haven't seen Lantus cause vomiting, but have seen vomiting in relation to food changes. When did she last eat dry food? Though foamy white vomit is more due to acid tummy or going too long in between meals. Several small meals might help that. My girl sometimes vomited if her numbers were too high.

I was thinking about some small meals in between would be good for her as she always grazed dry food until we just started Lantus then I removed it from her totally, so I think breakfast lunch and dinner will help her out and going to try that starting tonight. Thank you for your help as well. I did leave her Vetsulin sheet there just a different tab if that helps or I can switch it over
 
Some people use autofeeders to help give small meals overnight as well.

I can see the Vetsulin data - since she was getting 6 units and getting some low 100's, a better Lantus starting dose would be something like 5 units. Are you using the U-100 syringe for the Lantus?
 
Following on from what Wendy said... My boy used to vomit a somewhat foamy or slimey substance in the mornings when he hadn't eaten most of the night. The vomiting stopped when he got food through the night, even if it was just once.

After her food, perhaps she was so hungry that she gorged and that upset her belly.
Sugar cats generally do better with lots of little meals.

Fingers crossed she settles in well with Lantus and you get her tummy settled too.
