Im so anxious tonight. I hope everything goes well tomorrow. Keep him in your thoughts

does anyone know how quickly i should expect to see his numbers drop after the surgery? Im just wondering if i should get a libre put on tomorrow or if he'll still stay elevated for awhile while he heals and it would be pointless right now. Of course i'll ask the vet tomorrow but just wondering.

i'll update everyone tomorrow as i hear things from the vets

Good luck to you and OJ!!!!

Not sure you can predict on the numbers, but I'll be interested to see what the vet says.

Thanks! I need the hug. He's been great energy and appetite wise and acting basically normal aside from the high numbers so idk why im so worried. I think its just part of who i am lol. Just took away his food for the night and he was less than thrilled to see the carrier come in from the garage i filled it with nice warm blankets because its gunna be super cold in the morning

I havent picked him up yet but im being told he's a happy drunk. They actually waited until midday to do it because his numbers were super high. They said after the anesthesia he was 418 so his normalish. The vet said they were going to extract 3 teeth. Two were reabsorbed. She said the xrays didnt show any malformation which she would see with bone tumors so she wasnt concerned with that. Gave another antibiotic injection, sending me home with onisior and they shaved his chin to try and help with the chin acne and popped his bad ones

Yeah, dental is done! To answer a question above, now that we know there have been teeth taken out, there is likely to be a bit of inflammation. The inflammation can impact blood sugars for 7-10 days. The vet should be scheduling a follow up visit in about a week to make sure he's healing fine and there isn't any infection.

Hey all. So it was a loooong day for my lil juicy boy. His drop off was at 8am. Around 2pm i was starting to get worried so i called and they hadnt even started him yet. His numbers were very high before his shot so they wanted to give him a few hours to lower so they held off on doing him till mid afternoon. I totally understand. He was panting like crazy by time we reached the vet in the morning. I finally picked him up around 6pm and it was a much quieter ride home. He ended up getting 3 teeth pulled. Two had resorption and one was starting to abscess around the gum. I like that they sent him home with before and after pictures as well as xrays. They said they checked for tumors but there didnt seem to be any abnormalities with the bones in the jaw to make them think there was anything like that going on. They gave him a pain injection, a convenia injection and some onisior for the next three days starting tomorrow night. They also shaved his chin and popped some of his bad chin acne to see if that helps at all. I just have to check my schedule tomorrow and call them back to schedule a recheck in 2weeks to see how everything is healing up. They told me he was a very happy drunk and kept pawing at people for hugs which i believe because he almost tripped my mom twice when we got home because hes rubbing all over everyone and purring up a storm. I swear i brought a kitten home with me. He's got super zoomies but is being kept on the main level to avoid stairs for tonight. He ate a pouch of tiki cat as soon as he got home and i just gave him another spoonful. I was told to give a few very small meals tonight as he's still going to be feeling the effects of the anesthesia for awhile. But here he is happy and begging for seconds at the table lol. Also he put on almost a whole pound in the last three weeks. On 12/23 he was 10.8 today he was 11.7 so thats awesome as well. I think from his side profile he's filling out nicely

Test his blood sugar when you get him home. Some types of anaesthesia induction drugs lower the BG. If he's down even more at PMPS, you might be seeing that. Good to hear he's got an appetite though. :)

Okie. I had asked when i picked him up if i couldnt get him to eat if i should do a half dose based on whatever his numbers might be and they said to still do the full dose as he was still so high. Im def going to test before i shoot as usual though but i definitely didnt have to worry about the not being hungy. He'd probably eat three cans right now if i let him hahaha

Neko tried to eat the corn based cat litter after her first dental. It seemed forever waiting 20-30 minutes between feedings.

Thanks! Only thing now is he's going mental for food. The vet told me not to give him much tonight with the anesthesia but he's screaming for food. Idk if its from going until 630pm with no food or what. But over the last 5 1/2 ish hours i've given him one of the bigger i think 5 oz cans of tiki cat, a can of fancy feast and a tiki cat broth pouch. And he's still acting like he hasnt eaten in days. I dont wanna overdo it so i told him no more for tonight and i'll just give him a snack before i leave for work in the morning if he's still acting like he's starving.

Today he's very sleepy. He ate breakfast for his shot and woke up when we put dinner on the table but as soon as he was done eating chicken he went right back to bed. He slept all day too. He's probably hurting a bit today. I have to give him his onisor pill with dinner tonight before his shot

Thanks Diane. They said he could be feeling kind of blah for 72 hrs so as long as he still wants to eat i wont worry just yet. He goes back on the 29th for a recheck. Havent noticed a change in his numbers yet but hopefully as he heals we will

The anaesthesia can take it out of a kitty for a little while after a procedure, and that's on top of the ow-ness from the dental work. Poor little fella's been through a lot. Good that he's eating OK.

Oh yeah if theres one thing going for him its his appetite. He just ate a can and a half of fancy feast and ate his pill in it no problem which im thankful for. Definitely didnnot eant to have to wrestle it down his throat with all the stitches

Yes it does! I was so worried he wouldnt feel up to it afterwards and it was making me extra nervous about ketones. But he's still eating a ton in between his sleeping and i just got a urine test in and it was negative. He was always a vulture when it came to food so not eating is my big big sign something is up

I think oj might have an abscess but it wont let me post a picture to get a second opinion. It says i dont have permission to perform that function. Any idea why??? Im going to send his vet pictures right now so she can look at them tomorrow when they open and get back to me

I had that problem some time in the last couple of weeks. Can't remember how I sorted it but I think I either logged out and logged back in again, restarted my browser, or else rebooted my laptop.

We ended up back at the vet so they can take a look at his face and let me know if its an abscess or not. Will update after i get him back

They said its just acne and no abscess. They said his stitches are healing well and he gained a few more oz. since wednesday so hes back over 12 lbs. she recommended i get a cone for him but that would definitely get his butt kicked with the other cats for sure. So she said i could try alcohol free stridex pads so i'll pick up some of those

Are you using plastic or paper plates? They can cause acne because they can hold bacteria. If so you might want to consider glass, ceramic or stainless bowls.

Im not. Im using stainless steel for food and ceramic for water. And they get cleaned daily or at the least every other day. Vet thinks its getting worse/not going away because its constantly wet from his drinking all day. They shaved it so the fur wont hold the moisture and i've just been trying to dry his chin after i see him drinking. The stridex pads are working great too though
