1/12 Darcy AMPS 346

Starting day two of 6.5 units. I still don't see a lot of progress with these .5 unit increases every three days. Will the numbers just keep staying like this until I finally reach a good dose for Darcy, or will I see any gradual progress as the insulin increases? I've been doing this for a while, but this high dose thing is really new territory for me. Happily, his ketones are down to 2.4 on the meter today! I know that is not a great number and people will wonder why I am happy about this... but we haven't seen anything in the 2s for a while! I'll still give him the sub-q fluids today to try to keep that number decreasing. I'm hoping this lower ketone number means that Mr. Darcy is a little better able to "use" his food (i.e., using glucose for energy and not fat!) I do wonder though, that I'm not seeing better BG numbers to go along with it. We will see what today brings.

Just keep taking the dose up every 3 days by 0.5 units and keep getting a test or two every cycle. No one can tell what will be the magic dose at which Darcy's numbers decide to turn around. Any progress on the IGF-1 (acromegaly) and IAA tests?

Thank you. That's my plan (the .5 increases). I can't get any tests done right now. I'm now many thousands of dollars in debt from Darcy's extended stay at the ER (nighttime) and regular vet (daytime). Then one of my other babies became very sick last week and had to be euthanized. Very heartbreaking... so for now, I am trying to stay out of vets for a little while. I will still do it since I hope it won't be too costly. The tests themselves, I see, are not that expensive. There will be some exam fee and add on fee, I imagine, at the vet for processing the blood to send for testing.
