As of this morning, I have Darcy at 6.5 units. I don't see much changing, but there does seem to be a pattern with dose increases that he goes higher on the 2nd day, but I don't see, overall the highs getting higher nor, unfortunately, the lows getting lower.

Here's his SS. Marje is going to convert it to one of the FDMB sheets so it will be easier for y'all to read.

The higher numbers you are seeing on Day 2 after a dose increase is what we call "New Dose Wonkiness"

New Dose Wonkiness (NDW)

When you increase a dose of Lantus, you would expect the BG numbers to go lower, right? That's logical. More insulin = lower numbers. Only there is a lag time sometimes - increase the dose and for some reason the numbers go higher. That can last a day or so, and then suddenly you start seeing those lower numbers you expected. We call those higher numbers "New Dose Wonkiness" or NDW.

This is the reason we wait following each dose increase to let it settle and see what it's really doing.

Now not every cat does that, of course. ECID. Sometimes you increase the dose and you immediately see lower numbers. If you increase a dose and you see higher numbers, give it a couple of days for things to settle down and then you can assess the dose to see what it's really doing.

Thanks. Yep. I attribute it to NDW, or sometimes I see a bounce. But I don’t seem to be getting anywhere.
Plus, I know that Lantus isn’t going to just quickly reduce high numbers since that’s not the way it works, being a depot.

I increased him another half unit this morning so tomorrow I will probably get a high number for sure. They usually drop back down ... but I rarely see anything less than 250 :-(

Should I just keep adding to my old posts? It seems like the posts will become very long. And what is the convention that you have here regarding the title of your posts? I see that a lot of people... most people... put a bunch of their cat’s BG numbers.
