Butters & Lyla

Yesterday Was my mistake in saying I was looking forward to a second decent night's sleep:facepalm:, in spite of @JaxBenji patiently and repeatedly trying to get me not to be careless with my words?

I ended up testing overnight through to +6, when I felt confident that Butters was going to surf it out. Woke up to get a +9 (late nadir cat, after all:rolleyes:) and she had dropped to 50. Cute. Not much in the way of sleep happened (well, it did for Butters).

Today, I'm back at work (at home mainly, but working).

Have a good day, all.

careless with my words?
lol. we are all guilty of this. It's like some hope we have of "well, kitty won't read the board THIS time"...even though kitty has the past 1,000 times :joyful: At this point, I'm looking at user names to see which one is Jax's :cat:

Nice catch on that 50

Behave, Butters.

Yes, she's a tricky one isn't she? Loves to surf it nice and low...

Have a great afternoon Lyla...my boss is operating today - and popping out between every case to FaceTime with me...lord!

pure dumb luck:eek:! I'll never know if she was lower before that test.

Hopefully, it was just a super fast, transient low in which case not a big deal . And cue my occasional plug (& love) for Libre !! You would be surprised by what we don’t catch— so much happens SO fast at times.....there are some interesting transient events day to day. It is fascinating. It certainly helped me calm down by seeing the more complete trend data :p!!

I also wanted to mention that while I know you have been using a hard tummy to gauge pain, many times a hard belly in cats is actually due to an indigestion/gas issue. Given the fact that Butters continues to belch lends more evidence to something going on from a GI standpoint vs just pain from chronic pancreatitis. This is important because it helps with differential diagnosis (what else may be going on or actually may have caused the pancreatitis?) as well as with management based on a more specific diagnosis. Sometimes it takes time to figure it out as you trial diets, meds, repeat diagnostics.

You have changed the diet:), which hopefully, if there was or is any remaining intestinal inflammation as a result of a sensitivity to an ingredient &/or protein pre issue, it will resolve and help with the gas. You have also discontinued the Bupe which can interfere with motility to some extent (how much is different with every cat...some have no issue while others have some issues). You may want to try a slow feeder just to slow her down if you suspect she may be eating too fast and swallowing air in the process. That will help her some if she does tend to eat too fast :p!

At some point, if the belching, probable gas continues (aka hard belly), as well as the need for gabapentin, it would be worth pursuing differential diagnosis. If there is an underlying intestinal issue, such as a motility disorder as just one example, (there are many different GI issues) there are some good treatment options available :). Ultimately, once you identify the cause, you nail the treatment(s) and the pain goes away :bighug:.

LOL I think it was your voice in my head when I saw that 50, saying "what came before....":bighug:.
I do suspect she sometimes swallows air while she eats. I've tried raising the dish. Is a slow feeder different than an autofeeder?
She is eating around 1/2 oz of food eight times per day. So not a lot at once, but I do add quite a bit of water to it.

I have changed the diet, yes, but the EZ complete has ingredients her old canned food had in it: chicken liver and green lipped mussel, that give me pause for thought. I have the TC feline premix as well, which doesn't have those ingredients, she just isn't quite as enthusiastic about it yet. But I'm working toward using just that premix with the same protein, pork, to see if that helps at all.

Her belly has mainly been soft and squishy since around the same time her numbers started coming down. But hard here and there. But when I tried removing one dose of gabapentin it was hard by the next day and she was irritable. I know that I need further diagnostic tests to be able to really identify the cause.

Thank you for the info to chew on and it has given me a nice sounding board to type out my own thoughts:bighug:.

Cute 50 Butters...but maybe let mama have some sleep tonight? I know you're reading this, Butters! Also, put the credit card down, you can't go and buy yourself some chicken...no...noooooo Butteeerrrsssss
LOLOL:joyful:. I've started locking up my cards overnight....like that would stop her.
Behave Butters so mama bean can keep you eating in the manner you have grown accustomed!:D
Butters, read what your Auntie Elise wrote. We all know how good you are at reading and not following my instructions. But maybe you'll listen to her:cat:.

I think Butters just knows my password and for all you know this could be Butters typing right meow.
