Good morning. I hope you fed 10%. Record it with the next test and if any drop move up to 20%. Naps in the cards for today. Good job last night. I almost always had to watch Max until +6 or +7 which is why I shot earlier. :D
 
Oh no Elise, I just tested and realized I was supposed to feed 10% and he's dropped to 90 +1
I was like a zombie this morning trying to feed the gang. I'm giving him HC now but I've blown
it. I'm so mad at myself. I might have to put out notes to remember to feed him different food
from the others. What now? I feel like he's going to keep going down. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
 
So we need to get creative. We don’t know how much duration you get from one drop. So after you skip a shot can you test every 2-3 hours and let’s see how many hours it takes to get him up to 180. It might mean setting an alarm every 2-3 hours tonight. It looks like a drop every 12 hours is too much but every 24 is not enough. It’s an experiment. Even if we do nothing with this information I think it’s worth pursuing. The idea would be to shoot when he gets to 180, however many hours past 12 hours that is. The shot times might be anywhere between 12-23 hours apart. The other option is what Mogs will suggest when she comes on line.
 
I agree with @tiffmaxee regarding trying to determine what 1 drop currently does for Blue in terms of duration (which is the length of time the dose continues to lower BG) and what may be going on in terms of carryover (insulin effects lasting past the insulin's official duration). 12/12 shooting right now may be creating too much overlap ( the period of time when the effect of one insulin shot is diminishing and the next insulin shot is taking effect). Armed with that info it may be possible to come up with a plan that would allow you to feed normally while keeping BG in an all around safe zone allowing you better sleep. Thoughts?

You might also consider taking this discussion over to the “Think Tank” forum and posting daily in the Lantus forum.

Lurkers-this is a complex situation unique to Blues current situation involving lots of different moving parts.

@Sandy and Black Kitty and @tiffmaxee I think the above is worth a try. I understand I'd be testing to see how long the first insulin dose lasts. Would that lead to an increase once a day? or, shoot him at off times? Maybe we don't even know that yet, but just curious.

Who knew there was a "think tank"...I haven't moved around much on this site but did check it out. It had a convo about CBD which I'm considering for Blue for the anti-inflammatory properties.

I also looked earlier on the Lantus forum but there were so many people there. I was a little intimidated.

I just woke up from a nap which I needed badly. Thanks for the plan. I'd like to try it but do you think it will be accurate with all the syrup I've had to give today?
 
It would mean shooting the drop dose at different times. The shots would be somewhere between more than 12 hours but less than 24 hours apart at least at first. The goal would be to keep him over 50 and under 180 at least initially.

He certainly has been on one huge HC fest! It would give a clearer picture to have a day of numbers based on a day he is fed only a LC wet diet but we really don't know if that is possible. I think that in the interest of discovering what Blue is doing with 1 drop you skip tonight's shot, give him his usual LC meal, and then depending on the +12 start with a +14 and a +16 and then regroup to evaluate where to place the next test. Plan on shooting 1 drop at your normal time in the AM however if the numbers make you feel like shooting would result in another HC fest dont shoot.

Since you have not shot will be a +14 and +15, and yes that would be great. Feed him the normal LC % you feed however always keep a variety of higher and high carb varieties on hand in case you have to steer. On your ss please note tests in +hours since the last shot.
I'll see you at +14.

Blue is leading this dance, your job is to try and figure out the steps and then follow.

If he currently is experiencing long duration any carryover, shooting 12/12 may result in too much overlap (the period of time when the effect of one insulin shot is diminishing and the next insulin shot is taking effect) which can build momentum that quickly drives numbers down. You don't have any room in terms of adjusting the dose further down, trying to manipulate with food has been a challenge. Constantly battling dropping BGs using very HC food right out of the gate and for hours afterward each cycle is not sustainable It makes sense to consider timing. It may be that he'll do better if he gets a shot every 14 hours or 18 hours or 21 hours. If that is the case, and its in the cards for him to go OTJ, it could provide the extra last bit of support needed to get him there.
 
I understand. It sounds like a good plan. I'm glad to not have to feed him so much as the oncologist wanted him to eat only twice to three times a day. The snacks were small, but with his tummy so large I didn't want him to be so stuffed.

Whether you will still need to do some steering with food is yet to be seen. This is all theoretical at this point but we can hope for the best. Just always remember -- Better a day too high than an hour too low.
 
Okay, I can do that. I probably do need to sleep some. I've been testing him so much he's started getting irritated with me. This is the first time he's had a problem with it.
