Advise and Help Needed PLease For My Beautiful ACRO KITTY!

I hope everyone is safe and well Amethyst just had her 4 year anniversary being a Sugarbaby. It is because of all DCIN and all of you that she is still with me:bighug::bighug:This past year I have shot her Insulin into a Muscle TWICE! :arghh:causing her severe pain shock and placing her in Respiratory Arrest. Both times I thought I was going to lose her But it is not her time yet. PLEASE help me to understand why after all of these years I have twice caused her so much pain that she had to be rushed to the ER and spend 3 days and 2 nights there???? What am I stating to do wrong??? Thank you:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Where you are injecting the insulin are you pulling the skin up to make a little tent? This is what you need to do and put the needle in so it is parallel with the body. Similar like this. This way it is under the skin and does not reach the muscle.

Hi THank you for getting back to me:bighug::bighug::bighug: YES always that way for 4 years That is why I do not understand why she was so traumatized twice Is it because she now needs 20U at each shoot time???
 
20U? I did not realize she is a high dose kitty. That may be something other than how you are giving insulin. Are you using the short needle syringes?

I know there are a few members that have high dose cats. They may be able to offer more advice. You may want to include in your title that she is an Acro kitty so one of these members will notice your post.

Definitely try a shorter needle. Are you pushing the needle really far in? You really only need to get the very tip in.

I used a medium length needle. I didn't do anything different from when Neko was on higher doses than when she was on less than 1 unit. I think the preference for needle length is a personal one. With Neko's long hair, the short ones didn't work well for me. You might just have to experiment and see what works for you.

The only other thing I can think of is to see if you're inserting it at steeper downward angle - even the picture that Mogs linked above I think would cause you to hit muscle on accident eventually. :confused:
With Panic I held the needle almost completely parallel with her spine, with only a few degrees downward to just get under the skin. I do the same thing with my short-haired civvie who receives 22 units of Adequan every month without issue.

Is it possible you're pushing the needle harder as you inject and it's going into the muscle that way? There's definitely a difference doing a miniscule push of 1-2 units and a few seconds getting 20+ units down, at least for me.
 
Hi!!:bighug::bighug:!I have always held the needle almost completely parallel to her spine That is how I was shown at the hospital 4 years ago when they put me thru training for her Diabetes. I hardly pull up any skin at all and make sure it stays right on the surface I think it is because she is getting 20U twice a day and it takes a little longer and sometimes she moves while the syringe is still in her. I have been trying to be alot quicker since her 2 terrible ER trips both my fault:arghh::arghh::arghh: I also think I get very nervous each time now and that is why I was wondering if anyone here had any ways to relax me and Amethyst. Carla said someone sings to her cat I will sing Christmas songs these next two weeks Then what:confused: Thanks for your love and support.
