Hi from Bonnie & Mufasa

Hi, and thank you for allowing me to join. We have 2 cats, Rupert (9) and Mufasa (15).
We adopted Mufasa when he was 8 years old. He came from a hoarding situation. He is a snuggler, gives hugs and is my shadow.
Very soon after his adoption, he was diagnosed with mild asthma. He was on a low dosage of prednisilone every other day until this year. His asthma became worse so he got pred every day.
Earlier this year, he had a bad URI and a few months ago, inflammation in his pancreas. We have taken him off pred and working to get him comfortable getting Flovent.
Last week he was diagnosed with borderline diabetes. Tested again yesterday and his numbers are about 418. Currently trying wet food only, a list given by our vet. We go back this Saturday for another checkup.
In research mode now. A friend has been through this and has been very helpful. Told me about Young Again Zero and will see what our vet thinks. Mufasa does well with wet food but enjoys some kibble.

A little young again as a treat is ok. Wet is healthiest. Make sure to ask the vet for ProZinc or lantus insulin. With those numbers he's going to need insulin support. Normal is 68-150.

Welcome. The steroid likely caused the diabetes. I like your vet for suggesting wet food. If you can make a 100% switch it will be even better. I’ve noticed that when cats eliminate Young Again or Dr. Elsey’s dry they do much better. Freeze dried treats might help get the crunch effect. It’s good that you are trying the food trial first. Has long since he stopped the prednisolone?
