Morning, Patty.

I'm sorry to hear that Blue's been vomiting. :( ((((Blue)))) Hope the Cerenia helps him feel better. I'm glad his appetite is better this morning.

Are you going to skip insulin again? (I don't know what to suggest to you about that, but remember that if Blue needs insulin he earned the reduction down to 1 drop. I don't think Elise will be up yet or I'd tag her to see what she thinks.)

How are you doing today? (((Patty)))

Hi Mogs. I'm okay. Still drinking morning coffee. Blue is in my lap so all is good in the world.
I skipped again this morning. What level of BG should he be? Would a drop be good for him and necessary?

It's lovely picturing Blue snuggled up on your lap. :) ((((Patty and Blue))))

FYI, the normal BG reference range as measured on a human meter is 50-120mg/dL. All the recent readings you've taken are in this range. It might be an idea to check his BG at 1 and 2 hours after he has had his feed to see how his little pancreas is handling BG at mealtimes (just to fill in the picture a bit).

Normally the ideal is to help a kitty that looks as though it might be heading for diabetic remission to keep in the greens with only an occasional reading in the 100-120 range before attempting a remission trial, but with Blue's health status I feel that a more tailored approach is needed. Therefore I honestly don't know what to suggest about insulin for him. I'm tagging @tiffmaxee to see what she might suggest.

Did the oncologist give you any guidelines for insulin treatment?

She just said not to change anything. I tried telling her where we were with insulin. All she added was that she didn't want me to stop giving it and then have to go back on it. Confusing to say the least since he wasn't get any.
He clearly doesn't feel well. He looks at me a cries and he keeps burping. Hopefully the day after will be the worst of it. :arghh:

Hi Patty, just caught up on Blue and his diagnosis. I'm sorry you and he have to go through all of these challenges. :bighug: Sending lots of vines to Blue that the treatment goes well.
And looks like he is getting close to OTJ <anti-jinx>! That's amazing. :D
Hang in there.:bighug:

Thank you. He's worth the challenges. I just hope he starts to feel better today. Hopefully this will be the worst of the after chemo days.

By way of a bit of distraction, thought I'd share an utterly mundane happening over here in the Shire: my kettle's just gone kaput. :banghead: It was only purchased a few years ago and it doesn't get a great deal of use so I'm feeling rather miffed.

I've got to now wade through Amazon's listings to find a new one (grrrr ... PTSD trigger). Can someone please tell me who decided we all need a degree in Kettleology these days in order to make a purchasing decision for a basic household appliance, and when did kettles get so frelling expensive!

I tested him and he's 152 +2 so definitely got a food bump.

I don't drink tea but I bought one last year for my daughter. She uses it every day. Sorry, I can't help as I have no knowledge and bought hers on sale.
It's the holidays so you should be able to find a good deal.

Glad you got that test in, Patty. Spot checks like that when a dose is skipped will help you to better judge whether Blue still needs that teensy bit of insulin (and possibly not every day). I'd like to hear what Elise thinks (when she is around next).

I like our Breville kettle. But have only had it a year so it's still working. Glass. Don't think it is available across the puddle.
When did small kitchen appliances suddenly need mini computers? You can't fix them if they stop working. If there's a power surge, they are kaput. I just want to boil water for a cuppa and make toast.
Go for glass or steel. Boiling water in a plastic kettle just feels wrong.

Hi Patty. If he’s burping why not give him something for nausea ? Is he eating? I would give the oncologist a call if he doesn’t appear to feel better soon. I would not wait. The new guidelines say to test 3-4 hours after eating and a working pancreas should bring the bg down. If he eats before 3 hours it’s not a good indicator I would think. Right now it’s much more important that he eat.

He's kind of whiny and acted hungry so I gave him a little FF pate and he ate it. He still burps occasionally.
I don't think he feels that well but at the same time I think that's fairly normal after chemo.

Been doing that for decades. Plastic kettles used to be fine, but all the plastic jug kettle reviews I've managed to go through complain of water tainting.

Many of the glass kettle reviews report the body of the kettle cracking - when full of hot water!

It's been a real struggle trying to go through the Amazon site. Now I'm exhausted and I've got a horrible dose of the PTSD frustrated angries (which I hate). :( Small beer really, in the grand scheme of things.

I gave him the Cerenia earlier. Yes, he's eating but I haven't given him anything additional after his breakfast.

If it persists it might be worth getting in touch with the oncologist to ask whether ondansetron might be worth trying. At an appropriate dose, it can be given every 8 hours. (It's used to help with nausea for human patients undergoing chemo.)

Yes, he clearly doesn't feel great. He's making his way back upstairs to be alone. Having had chemo myself I remember the days after and I didn't feel great. He is still eating which is good. I'm keeping a close watch.

It should. I just googled the chemo he got. It is a side effect and I’m trying to wrap my head around why you weren’t warned. Is it in the paperwork you were going to scan for me ?

They said he shouldn't have adverse reactions but if he was drooling he was probably feeling a little nauseous.
That's why I gave him the Cerenia this morning. It was a full pill and not a half so maybe that's making him feel funny. He's hiding away upstairs. I've brought him down 3 times.
Maybe his blood sugar going back up is making him feel bad as well. You think?

The full pill was a good move. Nausea from chemo requires a larger dose for cats. I’m still wondering why you weren’t give more Cerenia and ondansetron as the onc didn’t know that you had some. How much more do you gave Patty?

The DH's cousin in Queen's Park had an earlier model of this one. It seemed to work well.

Thanks for the suggestion. That one really caught my eye earlier but the reviews were disappointing: it's prone to the lid breaking. :( :banghead:

I scanned in all the Blue Pearl docs but can figure out how to upload them.
Which device are you using, Patty? Have you tried using the Upload a File button below the posting box?
