Jus just did a +10 and got 68? his #'s at times have also been a lot in the high 70's is this "Normal" or??

@JanetNJ @Critter Mom
That's an amazing number. As long as he's not on insulin you don't have to worry about him going hypo. Even if he's below 50, there's no danger when not on insulin. 14 days in these low numbers is considered remission. I'm crossing my fingers for you!!!!!

The normal feline BG reference range on a human meter is 50-120. Your boy's numbers are really good (anti-jinx).

Roughly what times do you feed Venge every day (in '+' format)?

Keep it up, Venge! :cat:

Hes on all canned wet food FF pate or Friskies Classic pates now..I do switch up flavors being he is so picky he doesnt want the same thing over and over usually but its all in the non gravy classics etc..

He is a super picky eater always has been with wet food sometimes he will devour a whole can of FF others barely eat half one.. I also have to move the bowl around the room to trick him into eating more when he will take a few bites and walk away.. (I measure back what he walks away from after about 30 mins) and then I think it was Tues he ate a whole full 5oz can of Friskies at once... I have been adding some extra water to the cans of food being he is being weird about drinking water .. but being I have been trying to test his ketones so I have to stick my hand under in the stream is a good strong stream not piddling... ( I am letting him and his brother mingle some now for a few hrs or so a day so that he might walk to the other water fountain and litter box in that part of the house and be compelled to drink more and use that litter box which he does I can tell his pee from my other Venge is a pee on the side of the box and Nightwing is pee in the middle that makes softballs lol

I did buy some of the wysong epigen dry but have not tried that yet as a leave out to nibble or buy an auto feeder and put some in that so I can maybe try and sleep more here and there long as his #'s are good .. I did buy some anti Urinary crystal additive from Wysong to add to his food to help with making sure no crystals.. being he has the crystals issue twice this year and even thou the period between his first and second crystal blockage I had put him on a 75% wet diet I did leave out the urinary tract food which turned out to be HIGH HIGH CARBS... the blockage came back about 6 months after the first one with the 75% wet food diet ( all of his BIG health issues have happen in 2020 prior biggest thing was a upper respiratory infection once or twice when he was younger 3+ years ago) I was going to post up in a new thread about the wysong additive with the ingredients etc and make sure that none of it would effect his blood sugar.. the food is the 5.3% carbs.

Also a thought I really am thinking more and more the further away from the steroid shot that the Keto and Diabetes were/are a result of steroids over this year and the last one pushing him over the edge into Keto being he got severely dehydrated due to not being able to hold down liquids for 2 days after the shot..... and that the shot back in Aug started the diabetes being he started loosing the weight and drinking WAY more in the months following.. he lost 6lbs in 3 months .. which I thought was due to the diet food and less food not allowing to eat all he wanted all the time...

Venge has been staying in the greens :) so no shots.. but I am still doing quite a bit of testing.. my plans are to do a +2 hr curve tomorrow from his AMPS till PMPS times.. and see where we go after meals and etc...

As I have expressed in another post just now .. I cant thank the people who have read my 1000 questions and answered them and helped get him to this point enough I was overwhelmed with it all and now Im taking each day as it comes and not freaking out over the next BG test as I did in the beginning... if Venge wasnt an asshole (oh he is SOOO back to his old asshole ways it made me cry last night being hes being HIM again) he would thank you all also.. I actually tried to get some sleep last night and he was on my face at 630 wanting FOOD..( reason why I stopped letting cats sleep with me few years back he is relentless) but since being sick I have been letting him back in... I did order 2 auto feeders last night so I will just be setting those for the 630am feeding so I can maybe go to bed at 5 or so and not have to get back up hour and a half later... being it will only be in there a hour or 2 I will put cans of wet food in them oddly its hard to find digital ones that only have 2 compartments etc so I got the one with 5 just will be wasted space unless I do end up later on adding in a SMALL amount of the low carb kibble for a snack at certain times... I will do a full test of giving him a small amount then testing to see if his changes his #'s much next week maybe...

again thanks to those people who have really been there for Venge and Me I cant thank you enough..

when our cat overlords Finally deem us worthy and descend upon the planet may you be seen as loyal caregivers to the first wave of scouts and be rewarded for your efforts lol (something I came up with years ago being we pretty much are slaves to these furry bastards who 99% of the time see us as servants.. and if we are lucky we get some love in trade lol but I would not have it any other way... ALL HAIL THE FELINE OVERLORDS MAY YOUR BOWLS BE FULL AND YOUR FUR GLISTEN....

and just got the crap scared out of me lol... got a 44 .. and he had just been running around the house chasing Nightwing so I knew it had to be a bad strip... and it was tested 2 more times 67 ... I prob test too much but I usually do a double check with 2 strips just to be on the safe side... and just ketone strip test Neg.. the new Precison Xtra is running late so I can blood test ketones and not have to stick my hand under his butt when he pees.. neither of us seem to enjoy it LOL....

Just an update... Venge is doing awesome #'s did a almost 24 hr curve on him yesterday and last night... its been a week since his last dose.. I am so hoping that it was all steroid induced and that hes gone into a very fast remission...is it crazy he went into remission after a week and half of being diagnosed???? not looking a gift horse in the mouth ( knock on wood anti-jinx) but from all I have read it usually takes months...

So question being I will prob get a call from vet this week or next being the 20th will be a month since his DX and he went into keto and yall know the story... How should I approach the Vet with the fact that he is now ( knock on wood anti jinx) best I can tell in sorta remission by his numbers.. he has not had to have a shot for 9 days and is acting like himself looks good.. only issue is NOT wanting to drink from the water fountain .. so I am pretty much giving him soup to eat being I mix it with a lot of water( I think maybe the whole over drinking then throwing up anything the drank for 2 days has him scared of the fountain or something..I am just going to buy another style of fountain I guess which sucks being I bought these 2 new ones like 3 days before all of this happened..) he is peeing pretty regular thou and when I can I am checking for ketones (none)with strips being theOther ketone blood meter I ordered (because the other one was not working right) is lost in the mail.. UGHH .. they will want to do a BG curve on him and I dont think its necessary being I have done 2 in the past 3 weeks myself and will prob do another 12 hr one this week just to have the data to show the vet.. trying not to loose them as a vet because I will need them if an emergency etc.. But as yall know they had either no clue what to do or are using old methods of dealing with diabetic cats..

Being that the bottle of insulin I have now will go bad soon and HOPEFULLY NOT but if he ever needs it again.. do I ask for a script for lanus or etc so that I can use a better insulin ( I would prob buy a pen from a member here in the mean time just to have on hand if something arises..) or just buy a new bottle of vetsulin and leave it in the fridge being the bottle sealed is suppose to be good for a year or 2 and Hopefully never have to use it... as always I really appreciate all of the help I have been given if not for yall no idea where I would be or him and its because of your advice he is doing as well as he is and HE and I cant thank you enough for that..
@Critter Mom @JanetNJ

for 9 days and is acting like himself looks good.. only issue is NOT wanting to drink from the water fountain .. so I am pretty much giving him soup to eat being I mix it with a lot of water(
He's probably getting a sugnificant amount of water from his food since his numbers are good and you are adding water so and doesn't really need to drink much more.
Being that the bottle of insulin I have now will go bad soon a
It's good for a good 5-6 months in the fridge. These numbers look great. As long as you keep doing what you're doing he may not need insulin for a long time. I wouldn't bother asking for a new script for lantus just yet. If you see numbers creep back up ask.

Hi Lee,

Venge's numbers do indeed look really good (anti-jinx!).

Again, I'd recommend that at some point each day you test after a 2-hour fast, then at +1 and +2 just to double-check how much food might bump up Venge's numbers in the hours immediately after eating.

Re the fluids, as Janet comments above, it's not uncommon for cats on a wet diet not to drink much from a bowl or fountain, especially if a little additional water is mixed into each feed. The one way to get a fairly good ballpark figure for how much Venge is getting in the way of fluids is to note how much food he eats every day and how much water you add to each feed. Using the moisture content of the food you should be able to calculate how much fluid he's consuming.

UGHHH he bumped back into blue today 103(uggh decided to double check while writing the post being I have had bad strips and on the other ear was 112) but he got into the food that got left out for the other cat(still FF classic pate) about 45 mins ago in the other part of the house before I knew it I caught him at the bowl chomping... but I have checked him at +1 and +2 and no big jumps... will check him at +1 and +2 today after he eats see where it goes.. ughh ALL THE GREENNNN he had not seen a # over 100 in a long time... hopefully a one time bump I know 103/112 is still Good but I liked him staying 60-80s to me that seemed healthy and healing I guess.. hopefully due to the snack he had or just a minor bump up... PLEAASSEEEE ..

He gets the Fancy feast classic pate or the Friskies pate I usually add about 1/4-1/2 a can of water to the can of FF in his bowl so its really soup.. and he gets 4 meals a day now 12:30 pm 6:30pm 12:30am and 6:30am he has been eating pretty good.. usually eats most of a can of FF and if I give him Friskies I give him 1/2 to 3/4 of the 5.5oz can I will have to start measuring out how much water I add I usually just do it till its good and soupy lol

hey I am a worrying wally lol and at +1.5 after eating its at 90.. so was just a bump... and they the right eat gave 112... its odd how each ear can give diff#s and his pad and etc I think the strips are accurate but also have a % of being off being they arent made for kitty red juice lol

ok at +2.5 or so hes at 92.. little higher than he has been being for the past week + , I know janet 92 might as well be 85 lol at least green lol I just got in the Precision Xtra and did a blood ketone test was 0.1 so pretty much negative .. will check him every few days and keep up with that of course and when I was doing ketone test he flicked his ear and I got cat blood in my eye ... now Im gonna be part cat meowww.. before I started using cotton balls I was getting stuck thru his ear in my finger all the time when he would move so I got plenty of cat blood in me now hes not just my Fur son hes my blood brother lol

@JanetNJ @Critter Mom

Wow! Lolol

hes now like one of those horned frogs that shoot blood from their eyes as a protective defense ...lol since hes feeling better he knows when its time to do BG and hes good about it but when he feels the drop come out he wants to shake it off.. the weird part is that he LOVES water.. he has always tried and at times gotten into the shower with me... so the few times I have had to give him a bath it was not fun but not like a cat loosing its mind.. Nightwing... if a drop of water touches him he looses his mind ... years back had a issue with fleas and had to bathe them.. and Nightwing tried to kill me during it lol racoon or something got under my house and I got infested.. it was HELL... and hes back to 80 so guess it was a bump due to him sneaking in some food before the test...

Hey all so havent posted in here in a a few days... but its now been 15 days since I had to give Venge any insulin (anti JInx KNock on wood) his numbers are all great I did another almost 24 hr Curve on his Friday.. hes acting like his old grumpy self he even chased a laser pointer the other night when I was playing with Nightwing and he hasnt done that in Years.... I have tested every few days with the Blood Ketone meter and its always at .01 which is normal from what I read???? so no ketones.. could he maybe be in Remission this fast.. could it all have been Steroid induced from the DepoMedrol?? could it have been temporary and not actual diabetes or the diabetes just went into remission that fast due to diet and etc change??? after coming home from the hospital he only got injections for pretty much a week and has been in good numbers since... I didnt think remission happened that fast... ( No jinx knock on wood)

I know this week or next the vet will call wanting me to bring him in for THEIR curve they wanted to do after a month( of him being on 3 units a day and me NOT HOME TESTING :mad:) and I am going to tell them no that I dont think he needs it and will bring them in his spread sheet.. I dont even know if I should bring him back for them to test anything right now.. unless they insist.. I dont want to stress him out being hes doing so well.. and I know they will fuss being I refuse to give him the prescription food... ( maybe they will forget to check up on him and I not have to worry about the confrontation) the 20th has been one month since the Depo shot.. and the 25th will be a month since they released him... again I can not thank the people on here who have helped enough you have my everlasting gratitude and I am sure if Venge wasnt back to his grumpy self he would offer it as well..now if his asthma they diagnosed him with stays away .... hopefully he can be a happy healthy kitty...
