Here we go again! Poor Lulu really has been through so much in the last few months. Diagnosed with diabetes, insulin shots, vet visit after vet visit l, dental surgery, nasty tasting medicine...

I’d finally finished with all of it, she’s OTJ, healed up perfectly from her surgery, no more vet visits! And then today I got home and she took about 10 litter box trips in less than 10 minutes with only a little bit of urine coming out and some diarrhea. So off to the emergency vets we went! I’m currently at home waiting to hear back since they were so busy.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything. I’m terrified that this will throw her out of remission. I just spent $500, after all the money I’ve already spent on her so far. I’m a hairstylist and my industry is suffering terribly as we face yet another lockdown.

I’m not totally sure if it’s bladder related or constipation. She only eats wet food, and I always add water to it, so I know she stays hydrated. I guess I just needed to blurt this all out to people who understand the struggle! End rant.

Hopefully you'll hear some news soon. Both a UTI and being constipated could cause an increase in BG, but usually catching them early and treating quickly will keep them from losing remission.

Vet called and said it was most likely related to the diarrhea. No blockages or anything. He was concerned however about how diluted her urine was. He was very curious about her diabetes as this is present in diabetic cats. My last test a week ago she was still in green. She just had blood work done a few months ago and nothing came up on that. He will do more testing to check for anything serious.

Just praying it all turns out ok.

That needs to be looked into. It's possible she's got some CKD going on. If you have the bloodwork from a few months ago, it might help to put the results into the "Labs" tab on your spreadsheet.
I don’t have it unfortunately :( Would any of this have showed up on her blood work from a couple months ago? Or is it possible that it’s a new thing? He didn’t mention kidneys but online research definitely points to that or diabetes.

Your vet should have it....you could call and ask them to email them to you (or snail mail). It's a good idea any time you get bloodwork to get a copy for yourself.

It's possible it may have been just starting or it's possible that she just drank a lot of water today. The best urine to test for USG is the first morning urine. That's the one that's most likely to be the most concentrated

If she is starting some CKD, there's things you can do for it to help her live a longer and healthier life. Pretty much ALL cats will have some degree of CKD if they get to over about 10 years old. The kidneys are the weakest organ in cats.

If they keep her overnight, might ask them to get a first urine USG test in the morning.

If they do bloodwork, the most important ones are the BUN, Creatinine and there's a newer test called the SDMA that is supposed to detect CKD earlier. It's only run by IDEXX lab so if they don't use IDEXX, it would have to be sent out special.

If you give extra water that can make the urine more diluted, so it is possible it is that causing it, but I think it is wise to get it all checked out to make sure.
I do give her lots of water in her food! It seems as though it was most likely a UTI. Her kidney numbers were normal, but on the higher end of normal. He wanted to keep an eye out to make sure it didn’t turn out to be a kidney infection or worse. I’m planning to bring her in another few weeks for another blood panel and talk to the vet about keeping her kidneys healthy! I know there are supplements and certain foods to avoid to help keep them working. She’s doing better, I’ve only noticed her in the litter box a few times today (it’s 10 pm now) so the antibiotics are working it seems!

I’m glad all is OK. That is a relief for you.
Have you googled FLUTD?
I thought Sheba was getting frequent UTIs but it turned out to be FLUTD and there are things that you can do to decrease the number of episodes, if that is what Lulu is getting.
