New Member—need human meter suggestions

I'm looking for recommendations on the best human meter to use for testing BG regularly (preferably one that that is accurate with a very small blood sample since our kitty does not have the patience to have his ear touched for warming up AND ear pricks). TIA! This forum is exactly what I need because our vet is at a loss on what to do to help us. Thank you to all the contributors here that make this an invaluable resource!
 
If you live in the US, the most popular meter here is the Relion Prime from WalMart. It's only $9 for the meter and strips are only $17.88/100.

It takes a 0.5 sample size which is about as small as you can get. The only meter I know of that takes a smaller sample is the Freestyle Lite (at 0.3) but the strips are a lot more expensive too.

If you can manage to get the blood drawn, maybe try collecting on the back of the fingernail and doing the test from there? You could let go of your kitty sooner that way. :)
