12/4 Ruby +10 93/PMPS 98 lab results/+2 69/+3 63/+4 62

+10 = 93.

It's been a rainy and gray day here and there's lots to be upset about with the world right now. But I just returned from a run in the drizzle and feel better, and Ruby's greens are ray of sunshine. Let's hope we keep this up.

PMPS = 98

The vet called as his office was closing up so he was super rushed. Of course he did not receive the email that I spent a long time writing re: FDMB and TR. But he said, “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it,” so that made me feel good. I’m going to ask the office to email me the full report, but here’s the gist of it:

Glucose=121:Yay!

Fructosamine= 368: It’s loads better than the 446 that she got last month.

SDMA = 16: This is a little high, but he said “I don’t really like this test,” that all other kidney indications were normal and there is no glucose in her urine, so this is not a number to freak out about. Without the numbers for the other levels like BUN and phosphorus I can’t tell what he means. He said we need to recheck this in 3-4 weeks.

I'm worried of course by the SDMA.

Sounds like generally good results, though I agree, I'd get the full results emailed, including the urinalysis. Per IDEXX guidelines, SDMA of 16 may indicate early stage kidney disease, but it needs to be read in conjunction with creatinine and urinalysis (specific gravity ie how well kitty is concentrating the urine). Sometimes dehydration can affect results. I suspect your vet wants to recheck to see if there is a pattern of above normal range, ie. consistently above 14.

Thank you so much, Christie! I went back to old labs and populated the spreadsheet with the SDMA values, and they seem to be going progressively higher since her DM diagnosis. Could her kidneys be affected by the high protein diet I’ve placed her on for the diabetes?
