Wonder whether it might be a pancreatitis flare? Did Blue show any interest at all in the food when you first presented it to him, Patty? Did he sniff or lick it even briefly?

No interest in food at all. I just discovered he has diarrhea. He just sits at the water faucet. He might be dehydrated. I better call the vet.

I called the vet and am taking him in for 11:00 appt. He's still at the faucet drinking water off and on.
Poor baby boy Blue. I need to shower and get dressed. I'll keep you posted. I'd rather get him
in now than pay for the ER again.

If you pick this up before you see the vet, Patty, I recommend asking about anti-nausea/appy stimulants meds (and possibly pain relief) for you to give at home.

Sending prayers for the Bluebird...

We are back. Sorry Noodle is still under the weather.

He got an injection of Cerenia and pills for 7 days. Metronidazole every 12 hours. Sub Q fluids.
Also, I/D food for his tummy.
I still don't know really what is wrong. I elected to treat him instead of x-rays and blood work.
His mid-section is firm and they wanted to x-ray it and he's gained almost a pound. If he's not better
I'll take him back on Monday. I'm hoping he'll improve on the medicine. His BG was in the 300s
and what they'd expect since no insulin this morning. They want me to feed later and give insulin. She
suggested early but that would throw off his schedule.
I don't know if I did the correct thing. :arghh:

(((Patty and Blue)))

Word of warning: i/d is high in carbs so be ready for that with Blue's numbers.

Did they say anything about why they didn't prescribe any pain relief, Patty?

Sorry I didn't see notification of the tag. I just popped by to see how Blue is doing. :(
Patty:bighug::bighug: I'm glad you took Blue to the vet right away. It sounds like you are well equipped to help Blue with meds and subQ, except for ones for pain. Does he look or act like he is in pain? I know with Butters. She looks very tense when she is in pain, her tummy gets firm and I can't touch it without getting swatted.

Why do these things always seem to happen on a weekend. Sigh.
Sending prayers and lots of these: :bighug::bighug::bighug:

And prayers and :bighug::bighug: for you and Lily, Mogs.

The site wasn’t working for me earlier. I just saw this. So no test for pancreatitis? That’s a shame. What is the dose of metronadozole? Some vets give too high a dose. Is it the pills I hope?

Sorry, I took advantage and got a nap in.

I asked the vet about him being in pain and she said she didn't think so according to her exam. Of course, the vet he normally sees wasn't working today.

I elected to treat and not do so much testing yet. They closed at 1 today and my appt. was at 11. I will take him back on Monday if he continues as he is. He did get several varieties of food at night so might have caused an upset. He has never reacted to gravy like this so I doubt that's the cause, but then again he got different foods when I ran out of the 10% Meow Mix. The store didn't have it and I bought other foods.

As for the Metronadozole it is liquid and dose is 1 ml every 12 hours. I didn't push the pain meds because she didn't think he was in pain, but I do have some liquid Gabapentin if you think that would work? I will definitely look at that pain scale and save it. Thank you.

I wasn't even thinking when vet said she wanted him on the digestive I/D but yes, high carb. What should I do with that???

It is always on the weekend, you are correct. Between Blue and Layla I'm going to owe the ER and my vet for the rest of my life.

He went and hid upstairs again. I went up to pet him and he followed me downstairs. He ate some of the digestive care but
he's back up in his sick spot. :(

(((Blue))) :(

Fingers and paws crossed the meds'll sort things.

Keep an eye on him after he's just eaten anything, Patty. Hunching in a tense, meatloaf position - possibly with a sort of 'pinched' look to the face and the 'elbows' sticking out - and hiding can both be indications of pain, not just general illness-related malaise.

I went upstairs to check on him and he was sleeping comfortably. He was not hunching or in a meatloaf position. He followed me downstairs and stayed for a short time, but then went back up. I'm worried but don't know what more I can do. I guess be patient because we don't feel well immediately.

I just checked Blue and he's 362 PMPS and I'm surprised because he didn't get insulin this morning.
He's eating now...he doesn't like the I/D food so I put some Purebites tuna and juice on top. I'm not
giving his insulin until 8:30 at the earliest because I don't want to get that far off schedule. I also
want to make sure he eats enough. OMG he jumped over and is eating Brat's food. So much for Hills I/D.

He jumped over and ate Brat's food. LOL He seems to be feeling better. Hated the Metronadozole.
I gave him the insulin dose.
I thought pancreatitis and just wanted the medicine. They kept him last time. I don't think there
was a good reason to do that other than charge me $$$.
I can always take him back if necessary. Probably take the food back. WTH high carb??? What was
she thinking...? :(

Why are they so prone to pancreatitis? What can I do to prevent it?

I gave him some 13% and will test again in 30. I fed him the 12% FF w/gravy last night and he got sick. Just scared it caused it. The 13% is Meow Mix but not his favorite.
I hoping we both get some sleep tonight. He did come downstairs and is in his bed/scale. That relieved me. He's been hiding most of the day. His abdomen is still pretty tight but he looks more relaxed in his bed.

Don’t give him gravy in case that’s the problem. Instead use syrup if needed with the 10 or 12%.

I think the hc might have been causing stomach upset. He’s sliding down down and I’m hoping by testing every 30 and feeding lc he won’t go under 50. If he gets close we can add syrup. I think testing at 30 we won’t miss.
