Hope everyone had a safe and blessed Thanksgiving! I haven’t posted Marmy‘s numbers or on the feline diabetic message board in quite a while so I am just updating all of you wonderful people who check on the needs of our cats on the board to let you know that she has been at 1.5 for quite a while. Her range is usually in the blues and yellows every once in a while she throws me a pink. Yesterday she had real turkey and she threw me a pink I don’t know why because I think that turkey is low in carbs but it is people food. She eats very well and seems stable in her weight at around 10 pounds. She pees a lot and poops regularly. She is around 11 yrs old we think. should I go up to2 units? Or leave well enough alone. She eats Primal freeze dried nuggets which are low carb mixed in warm water and about 3/4 can of FF pate daily. I give her many small meals (6-8) daily She does take allergy medication and that manages her licking herself and getting fur balls. She also is on a kitty sized probiotic, Ultimate Flora, recommended by Marje Blaine years ago. I have her on ,75ml of omega 3 oil and do sprinkle Forta Flora on top of her meal lightly if she is reluctant to eat occasionally. She is sleeping more. And she is the nicest kitty, disposition wise we have ever owned since we always rescued special need feral kitties. We have had 12 cats of our own over the years. And we have rescued and socialized around 40 or so more and found them forever homes. I am the caregiver for my sister who lives with me, is 83 and has dementia and other physical issues including not being able to walk on her own. I am 77 and well enough. Marmy will probably be our last pet, depending on a variety of variables. So this is more than any of you probably want to know but we have been rather isolated during this Covid epidemic and I just got carried away. I had established wonderful connections over the years with Julie, Marje, and others but wasn’t on the board for a long time because Anita had 11 surgeries and my dad passed, etc. etc. so I am hoping to reconnect on a more regular basis with you from here on out. Bless each and all of you for your wonderful commitment to our diabetic kitties.

Marmy looks and sounds like a sweetie! I can't answer dosing questions, but my comment should bump your post up. I don't ever comment unless I have a question or need help, so you won't see me here very much, either. :-)

Suggestion: Update her readings in the title and change the post title to include your question, like:
Marmalade 11/27/20 262 amps, 204 +6 | Increase dose?

Hi! You've been doing an amazing job managing Marmy's FD for all these years! Really wonderful to see. I read your post and wanted to say thank you for taking in those special needs ferals over the years. That warms my heart so much. :bighug:

It is pretty quiet on the board still today because of Thanksgiving, so keep hanging on for an answer at some point. I'm Canadian. Ours is a Monday, one-day affair. But it seems like y'all get a four day weekend out of it. :) And I agree with Karen it would help if you added "Increase dose?" to your title.

I looked at your spreadsheet. I've been doing the sugar dance with Butters for all of 6 months, so I don't give dosing advice. But I noticed a lot of empty cells on the 2020 page where the dose would be written. I'm curious if you did not give Marmy insulin on those days, or if you do not always write the dose in? Just a thought, but if you didn't give insulin those days you may want to write "skip" or "no shot", because whether you are consistently giving insulin and how much you are giving could impact what advice you're given. When the people who are willing to offer an opinion on dosing see blank cells, they're going to ask what I asked. :)

Hi. I’m wondering if the empty spots where the dose belongs means you skipped or just didn’t fill the cells in? You sound like you have a lot of stressful things you are managing right now so I wonder if you even would want to follow TR. It sounds like overall she’s doing well. That’s great! What medication is she getting for her allergies? Does she have dermatitis?

Thank you both! Karen and Charlie and Butters and Lyla. I guess I should fill in the 1.5 each time. I just get behind in recording the numbers and just assume that everyone knows I give her insulin every 12 hours. Thank you for letting me see how confusing the blank spaces might be. I will make an effort to fill them in. Charlie and Butters are beautiful kitties. Sweet dreams to all of you tonight.

No dermatitis. And I never skip a dose unless she drops below 40 which has only happened a couple times over these 5+ years. I will try to fill in all the empty boxes where 1.5 should appear. Sorry for the confusion. See my answer to the previous post. And yes, I have attempted to follow tr in the past but not managed to follow thru because I am not well versed in it enough and just hear a different drummer. Marmy is on 5mg. Of the generic of Zyrtec, certirizine hydrochloride. Thank you for your response.

Hi Toni. Some scritches to Marmie from me. Some turkeys are soaked in brine before being sold (Butterball being one), which is a water, salt, sugar mix.

I think you could try 1.75 units, not a jump to 2.0 units.
