Yes he ate HC food since it was so low. Went to 237 and 227

Hi Mike,

Very good idea bringing your little one to the vet for monitoring.

The vet was concerned about the numbers from this morning of 30s and then 50s. They think he’s making his own insulin that’s what’s causing these staggering numbers.
A 'sputtering' pancreas. That happens when a kitty is trying to go into remission (anti-jinx!). Fingers and paws crossed... :nailbiting:

Okay Earl was 65 when I got home just now he’s 302. Should I give him insulin?

Welcome, Mike.

The 302 is likely a bounce from the low numbers.

Some cats become sensitive to insulin after low numbers so caution is advised. Also need to take into account a possibly sputtering pancreas.

Dosing is based on how low a cat goes during a cycle. The low numbers call for an immediate reduction.

Some information is needed.
1. What insulin are you using and what is the dose?
2. What dose did the vet suggest?
3. What type of meter are you using – human or pet?
4. What meter did the vet use? (Pet meters run higher than human meters – the two meters are not comparable)
5. What are you feeding and when was your cat last fed?

@jt and trouble (GA) Can you please change the title of the thread to something like "Low numbers earlier. Need dosing help asap"
More eyes will be drawn to the thread. (I can't stay online.)

Mike I implore you to try and load your spreadsheet and signature. I know youre not savvy with message boards neither am I but these two tools will help our "experts" give you vital information going forward.
New? How You Can Help Us Help You!l

Both tasks are included in that link. I can get you help if you need. It happens to most new people so please dont feel I'm hounding you. We ALL want to help.
Tested ten minutes later was 63 it’s weird should that happen?
Not weird at all. ;)

If you haven't already shot insulin this morning, don't. Since there's a chance that he's making his own insulin, let's see what he does today. In particular, let's see whether his numbers start dropping after eating-- that would be a really strong sign of a working pancreas!

I'm having trouble following the story from this thread-- I don't know how much insulin has been shot when, or even whether a human or pet meter is being used, so I don't want to offer any more specific advice than this right now, but from what I can tell it sure looks encouraging for Earl so far!

AGREE!

Any time you skip the dose you could try the following:

1. Test after a 2-hour fast.
2. Feed.
3. Test at +1, +2 and +3 hours after the feed.

You may see an initial bump in BG after the grub but if it comes back down again quickly then that would give some indication that the pancreas is producing more insulin.
