Hi everyone!

I've been holding Kovu's insulin for 20 days now. I've noticed in the last couple of days that it is in the blue zone from the green zone. Do you think he will need insulin again or is this just his numbers balancing out? This morning his sugar was 6.4 but tonight it was 5.2. Strictly wet food, but I leave it out overnight so I'm not sure if he ate some before this morning number.

Hi Julia,

Those Alphatrak numbers look sweet as a nut. Per my vet's advice the normal feline BG reference range is 3.9-8.3 and Kovu is comfortably below the upper threshold. I'd suggest just monitoring for the time being. If numbers continue to trend upwards then a vet check-up would be a good idea in case there might be any infections lurking round (oral or urinary tract issues are common culprits). You could then revisit whether to reinstate insulin treatment.

I'd also suggest grabbing tests now and again in the hours immediately after Kovu has eaten to see how his pancreas is managing at mealtimes.
