19/11 Mo - I don't know what's happening with his BGL...

Can anyone shed some light as to what they think is happening with Mo's levels? The other day was the first time he had been in the blues for a good 5 hours, so maybe he's bouncing weirdly? I have no idea tbh. Maybe he got low overnight and has bounced again but tbh I'm not willing to get up in the middle of the night to test him because for my sanity and mental health (I struggle with anxiety), I really need my sleep.

Hoping we don't see any red today...

Hope everyone is doing well :bighug:

Yep looks like a bounce, if he does hit red just enter it real quick and then look back at his blue streak ;)

Because he’s new to blue you won’t consider adjusting his dose until after 8-10 cycles.

ETA unless he happens to earn a reduction.

If I had to guess, I suspect that you'll need to raise Mo's dose tomorrow morning. AMPS will be 6 cycles at 3.75u.

I don't think this is a bounce. (Sorry to disagree Serryn - @Vyktors Mum). Usually a bounce occurs within a cycle or starts shortly thereafter -- the same or the next cycle -- depending on how long the lower numbers last. It helps to remember that insulin is a hormone. It's not a drug like an antibiotic that acts pretty much the same way every time. Insulin needs can vary depending on food, stress, exercise, and sometimes even the phase of the moon (and I'm really not kidding about the moon thing).

It's possible that Mo's numbers were a little lower overnight. It would be helpful if you could get a PMPS vs a +11 (or both!). I know it seems like there shouldn't be much difference between the +11 and your pre-shot, but it happens. While it's certainly unlikely that numbers would have dropped to where it wasn't safe to shoot, it's better to be in the habit of getting the pre-shot number vs skipping because there will be a time that you'll test at pre-shot and you'll get a low number.

Thanks! I'll see how he goes on this cycle. We used to be able to get his PMPS but the closer we get to his dinner time, the more upset he gets, despite us feeding him multiple times a day. Last night he was hissing and growling so we just left it. I understand the importance of the PMPS test and I will try do it tonight. We have found that if my partner tickles him while I'm doing it that helps. But just not for the PMPS test, which is annoying.

I tested him about half an hour ago and he's only just back in the yellow. I'll test him again in 2-3 hours to see how he's going. He's pretty happy - currently wandering around the garden. I keep checking his tummy to make sure he's not in pain and is showing no signs of a sore tummy. Which is gooooood!

One thing you can try to make PMPS easier is to put a bowl of ‘soup’ in front of him to distract him (mix a tsp or two of LC wet with water) - though tickling sounds like more fun!

Have you tried using freeze dried treats as a bribe for testing? I don't know what brands are available in NZ but surely someone on here may. I use purebites freeze dried chicken - I take a treat and break it up in front of me and test as Jax is eating it. A couple of zero-carb treats are okay before PMPS.

That's a good idea! I might try that tonight, thank you :)

Yeah, we use freeze dried treats as a bribe already but he's still not keen. I don't know what it is about that time of day. I guess he is at his crankiest.

I've tested him again and he's low 300s. Pretty consistent with where he was 2 hours ago. I will test him at PMPS but I imagine there won't be much change.

Come on Mooooooooo!

Still consistent at PMPS. From +6 to PMPS he has been around the 300 mark. Tim was able to hold him down for me while I tested him. Thank goodness for the scrape the blood off with your thumb trick otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it!! He is happy now that he has eaten.

I'll test him in 3 hours before I go to bed. We will most likely increase to 4 units tomorrow morning.

Is there any type of meat that he really likes? Like baked chicken or a small piece of turkey? If it's a pure protein source, it shouldn't raise his BG by much (if any) and if there's something he really goes bonkers for, maybe he'd be easier to test.

If something really crazy doesn't happen tonight, I think I'd go up tomorrow morning too.

C'mon Mo! Work that juice!!

I cook and cube pieces of meat as treats for Butters. She is okay with the freeze dried treats but goes insane for cubes of pork and lamb. I hope you find something that works well for Mo.
