? 11/9 Sissy PMPS 237 Won't eat

I've been struggling to get Sissy to eat off and on. She did it several days last week, then did better and today, as of this afternoon, she is not eating again. I gave her Cerenia and Mirtazapine this morning, and she did eat early in the day, but since 2:30 or so this afternoon she hasn't eaten. I just did her pre shot test and she's 237..which is so disheartening to see after the great runs she's had, but she did earn a reduction last night...but now she isn't eating. I put treats on her food and she ate a few off of it and then left. I have not given her the pm shot. I don't know that I can get her to eat at all in the night, usually with the Cerenia on board, she will eat. Right now the shot is only 15 minutes late, so I could still get it in, but again...I have opened so many cans of cat food this evening and nothing. I had to leave earlier and thought for sure she'd eat by the time I got back but she has not.

Should I give her a half dose of insulin, or none. She is making me crazy...and She has really worn me out this week.

I found a packet of weruva slide and serve in the cabinet...she ate maybe a tablespoon...but then walked away. :/

It sounds like she could have pancreatitis. I would call your vet tomorrow. Do you have any baby food? Sometimes they will eat it when they won’t eat anything else. Mine always preferred Gerbers, the 100% meat ones. They come in beef, chicken, turkey, and ham.

Since she won’t eat, I would skip too. Offer her small amounts.

I do think I still have baby food from May...I'll go look, I had forgotten about it!

Okay, I gave her enough of the chicken baby food to cover the bottom of her bowl and my daughter says she's eating every last bit of it. So...should I still skip? Or give her a reduced dose? She is going to be sky high in the morning without any. :/ I know there is no guarantee she'll eat through the night. but that's promising that she ate that.

If you think you can get her to eat more if needed, maybe give a reduced dose. Do you have more baby food? If not I would go to the market. It’s easy to syringe feed if need be.

I have a few more cans, but I don't have a syringe. I do have a bulb nasal syringe. Would that work? I thought I had some from when we had to syringe feed Sissy's brother who had cancer...but I don't. :/
Our Walmart closes at 10 since they reduced hours...and it's 5 after. I think Kroger is still open for another hour, but not sure I could find one there. I usually get the syringes at the farm store. Our pharmacies closed at 10 too.

She might be starting to bounce. Test again and if she's still on her way up, you should be fine shooting, even the full dose as you've been getting some food in her. Note, if they don't eat, a half dose is OK. If she has inflammation (pancreatitis) numbers go up from pain and you really don't want to give them too little insulin. Make sure you get a ketones test in when you can.

Bed and Bath has them for babies. I could sometimes finger feed my cats. The syringe can wait until tomorrow. You can rub honey on her gums if necessary.

She is 212...she was 237 an hour and 15 minutes ago.
I can get the syringes at Rural King tomorrow. I'd have to drive a bit for a Bed and Bath...unfortunately. lol
I can do a ketones test...I'll try to catch her in the box.

I went ahead and gave her half a dose. Now just have to get her back to her normal time.

Unrelated...but she's doing that twitching thing that she started doing around the time she got sick the first time. Sometimes it's just a little twitch here and there, but sometimes, like now...she does it a bunch. And some are not little jerks. I can feel her doing little ones because she's on my lap, awhile ago she kept doing it over and over. One was pretty big. She's awake, looking at me and just twitch. Sometimes it moves her front leg too. It's just weird. It feels weird. I mentioned it to the vet before but she never saw her do it and didn't think it was a big deal, but it reminds me of neuro stuff I saw as a CNA. And I've had a lot of cats during my life and never had one do this before. I'll try to get it on video. She does it a bunch, then it calms down and goes to just once in awhile. Have you all ever seen a cat do that?

It almost reminds you have a baby's startle reflex.

My kidney cat did that when her potassium was low. I’m sure there must be lots of potential causes. Does she seem to be in pain?

Can you take a cell phone video of her twitches? I found videos really helpful for the vet when my cat won't perform at the clinic.

She doesn't. She seems pretty much normal except for the not eating thing. She has been a little standoffish, but she's like that sometimes, kinda moody. lol

Yes, I'll try to get it on video. I have tried to do it before. By the time I realize she's been doing it and pull up my phone she either quits doing it or the jerks are so far apart it's hard to capture. I wish I had done it tonight, these were pretty pronounced. But by the time it dawned on me to do it, she had slowed. I got a couple, but super long video. I'll try later when she comes back. She just went to eat some more. She ate the whole spoonful I gave her.

When Max had pancreatitis he didn’t seem to need pain meds as often as others but he always was inappetent. Sissy seems nauseous though. I’m glad no detection of pain.

I’m glad she’s eating. Maybe just an off day and nothing more.

She's been having an awful lot of off days lately. :/ I should probably check in with the vet.
I wish I'd thought about the baby food earlier, she seems to like it, might have been able to shoot her on time and a full dose. But might be that it's just new and she won't eat more of it later though. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Thanks for your help tonight everyone.
