Hi everyone,

My boy, Mo, was diagnosed with pancreatitis this week and before his flare up, his numbers were in the 200s and 300s but since his diagnosis his numbers have been in the high 300s and 400s.

He's still healing and he is eating well. The vet wants him to eat RC sensitivity control biscuits as they will be easy on his tummy. I'm feeding FF pate alongside. However these are the highest numbers I've seen with him since I started testing.

Is this normal? Should I be worried or wait for his pancreas to heal more? Is it necessary for him to be on the biscuits?

Any opinions or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

My cat Oliver spent two days at the vet hospital with sudden pancreatitis. His BG went high along with the vomit and diarrhea. I am waiting to see his numbers normalize. My vet put him on antibiotics saying the pancreas could be infected. I wish you the best.

This is our Primer on Pancreatitis. There's a wealth of helpful information in the post. I'm hoping your vet supplied you with pain medication. Pancreatitis is very painful and that could be contributing to the rise in numbers.

If the vet told you to feed dry food, it's also a big contributor to higher numbers. The Royal Canin is 36% carbs -- in other words, it's very high in carbs and it's driving your cat's BG numbers up. I seriously doubt that the ingredients in this dry food are easy to digest since many cats are sensitive to gluten and they can't really process carbs (like the wheat, rice, corn and beet pulp that are in the ingredients) since cats are obligate carnivores.
