Relion Meter Help

Hello friends!

I switched today to a Relion meter instead of the Alpha Trek 2. I ran out of strips and man are the alpha more expensive.

Anyway I just had a question about the accuracy of the relion or if there is a curve to adjust to it? I tested Frank today with both and the relion had 525 while Alpha had 497. I didn't do anything special without the Relion just used it right out of the box, was I supposed to do anything?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!
 
I didn’t do anything with my Relion meter. Took it out of the box and used it right away. I would definitely call them and request the free control solution (don’t tell them it’s for a pet). I’ve gotten some wonky readings with multiple batches of some strips so want to ensure something isn’t wrong with the meter. I have a premiere and a prime meter and have determined I like the premiere better. Cheers to saving $$!

Hi Mariana, you don't have to do any coding with the Relion.
Do you plan on using the Relion from now on?
If so you should add what meter you plan on using in your signature, nothing is there.
If you are going to use the Relion from now on , add that to your spreadsheet that you are switching to the Relion, make a note on your spreadsheet and the date .
There is a difference for the dark green and the neon green to go by when using a human meter, take a look at Tyler's.

I don't know how to tell you how to change it but I can tag @Chris & China (GA) and
@Bandit's Mom to help you change it, that's only if you are definitely going to stay
with the Relion.
 
I also see on your spreadsheet you are jumping from 4 units, to 6 units, to 8 units, then back to 6 units. I don't know about Prozinc, She usually only increase by 0.25 units at a time.
Also we go by how low the insulin is taking Frankie to determine when an increase or decrease is due.
We don't go by the Pre Shots.
You need to be testing much more , especially at night.
Let me see who uses Prozinc and can take a look at your SS or anyone else

Thank you ladies, sorry if I tagged someone that can't give advice about Prozinc
Her cats BG's ate really high and the way her vet has her increasing the dosage seems crazy to me, of course I'm no expert or experienced enough to give her advice.

Thank you! The vet finally agreed to have me go down to 6 from 8 and I'm trying my best as my husband still trusts the vet so we will see how this goes. I will try to up my testing, it requires two people with Frank so it has been a bit tricky.

So i am still confused about how to read the meter since i was used to the alphatrek numbers...how do they correlate to the Relion? And how will my vet know? i am sharing my spreadsheet with her and she was going by the alpha numbers.

The Relion will usually test a little lower than the AT. At low numbers, they will be closer than at high numbers.

The "time to act" on a human meter is below 50. On the AT, it's below 68 so you can see they're fairly close at lower numbers. As the numbers go higher, there can be more of a difference but at that point, it really doesn't matter if they're 350 or 500. "Too high" is "too high".

The important part of using any meter is 1. to know it's safe to give insulin at all and 2. to answer the question "Is this dose getting my cat where I want them?"
