Henry AMPS + 0 = 431, AMPS + 6 = 349 Henry was really playful during those yellows and blues
I knew something was up prior to yesterday's PMPS + 0 because of his playful behavior.

I’m so glad he’s playing and feeling well. It’s great to see we are making progress! We will wait to see how long it takes the bounce to clear. Now that we see some lower numbers, I want to address his feeding schedule.

Some cats can eat all through the cycle and it not affect their BG. But, for most, feeding at or after nadir slows the action of the insulin down and the kitty loses duration. This is what his curve looks like to me as bounces don’t start within a couple hours but loss of duration does.

Think of it like you are driving and approaching an intersection. If you slam your foot on the break 40 feet away, you stop immediately. If you just take your foot off the gas, you can glide up to the stop sign. In this analogy, slamming your foot on the brake is = to feeding at/after nadir. Does that make sense? Conclusion: you might want to consider his last meal to be at +4 or +5.

There is (2) preshots in 24 hours ==> 6:00am & 6:00pm

But it's recommended to make sure your cat has a meal just before the preshots

Henry is fed (5) times in 24 hours ==> ( 6:00am, 12:00pm, 6:00pm, 8:00pm, & 12:00pm)

Calories in sequence (80, 80, 40, 40, & 80) total = 320

Which of these feedings would you recommend to change?

With Lantus, it is not necessary to feed before giving the shot. Many vets get this wrong because they are used to dealing with fast acting insulins where dood must be on board. Lantus doesn’t onset until about +2 so food just needs to be on board before that. Having said that, I’d guess that almost everyone, including me, feeds while shooting. So the normal flow of things at preshot is test, feed/shoot within 15 mins. But, if your kitty didn’t like to eat while you shoot, it’s fine to feed him afterwards.

While every cat is different (ECID), nadir is typically mid-cycle or around +6. If you shoot at 6, that would mean 12. That’s the meal you might want to shift to +5.
