Cat needs rehab urgently

For everyone who has come to the rescue so far and others who may come to this forum, I apparently left out an important detail: Jingle is still at home with Richard while we look at alternatives for his care. Thank you and sorry for the wild goose chase!
That's ok. We are all trying to help you and Richard provide the best care for Jingles to help improve his health.

expect that Jingle is drinking and peeing more than normal at the moment (beyond a certain point glucose starts tipping into the urine, hence the litter sticking to Jingle's paws). This is also normal for an unregulated diabetic.
So true about the litter sticking to the paws. Had I known this, my cat could have been diagnosed much earlier. Maybe litter manufacturers could put this information on the bags.

Such wonderful news! Thank you for all you are doing to help Jingle. :cat:

Anyone else need Kleenex?

Well we have a great update Jingle has all his supplies and has had his 1st shot of 1u, his preshot was 409 and I did a plus 1 and he was 341, Amy and I did a FaceTime so Debbi could talk to us both and this cat is soooo sweet, he didn’t flinch being tested or shot, just laid there. He would be a very easy cat to handle, DH said keep him, Amy’s DH says he wants him lol, u couldn’t ask for a better cat with diabetes, happy and purring

He is going to be staying with Richard but has a LOT of support from people in the building. Debra, who is helping with him, organized a group of cat lovers to help :bighug:. She is going to use a notebook at Richards so everyone helping is able to see the information they need to know. Jamie & I have made sure that they know we are available for any help, questions, etc..

As Jamie said, SWEETEST cat! He should be super easy to find a home for. And I want to say that Debra is an angel walking on this earth!! What an amazing & interesting woman—could’ve talked with her for hours. I feel blessed to have met both Debra and Jingle.

PS, I think we all want to see a picture of Jingle! gotta get a before and after so we see how great he looks in a couple of months.
Debra will be coming over Sat to pick up the carrier and food that Amy got Jingles so I will take a pic of him then, he is kinda skinny but that’s to be expected but he did eat 2 weruva pouches while he was here

Any update on how Jingle is doing?

@Bellasmom Jamie and I have provided the necessary supplies as well as continued communication regarding the need to continue to try to monitor and also to provide the insulin while we wait for a foster placement through some agencies. This is a tough situation because the owner has physical limitations which makes BG testing very difficult and so far, unsuccessful. The friend is going to talk with the owners family to ask about additional support as she has said she would assist with helping her friend while waiting for a placement. It turns out in addition to diabetes, there are some other potential medical issues including dental issues. She has reached out to DCIN. The cat is most likely older than 4 or 5 as per the vet involved.

If anyone is aware of anyone with the ability and resources to be a permanent home or foster for Jingle please post. There is a local organization that has resources to help place cats out of state.

In the meantime, prayers for Jingle

Prayers for Jingle. Do they have a list of the health issues and do you know if there are any local organizations that can help with treating them? That may also help find potential adopters if they know they will have assistance with improving his health.

They didn’t but they do now :). The friend has agreed to take Jingle back to the vet for his BGC and repeat bloodwork within 2 weeks (or slightly after that as she will be out of town). We have made sure the friend who posted here contacted DCIN (she had not done so until yesterday) and I made her aware that both the sanctuary I contacted and also one of the particular rescues that specialize in older and special need cats, will both need sponsorship or help given the potential costs that will be involved with getting Jingle back to health. I have made it very clear that the health issues, beyond diabetes, must be disclosed, including the age of the cat, in any postings online or with contacts to friends, shelters or rescues moving forward because not doing so will only potentially result in Jingle becoming homeless or worse, euthanized.

The friend who posted here is a very intelligent, educated woman actively involved in her community (volunteering) and she told me she has had experience with diabetic pets and she is familiar with the cost of labs and dental issues as she had a pet who needed extractions. The vet clinic she took Jingle to is a partner with a local no kill rescue. She did tell me that either they or another rescue said that Jingle could be brought in through their medical intake but that she didn’t feel that was the best for Jingle. I will discuss it with her again as a temporary option because, at this point, there is not the support we were told there was to be able to help the owner with Checking BG, giving insulin until a foster home is available.

There is a program that I found that helps seniors with their pets but they are not accepting any clients right now. Again, the owners friend, Jamie @Bellasmom & I have reached out to the organizations that would be able to help with a special needs cat. I am hoping we hear something back from one of them this week.
