My kitty has diabetes and Ibd. She has a problem with frequent vomiting which I have mostly managed with frequent small meals. Recently she developed gastritis with overnight vomiting and now vomiting when fed more than about two tablespoons. The vet put her on cerenia which does work but tastes horrible if it hits her front tongue and she runs away in panic. She is on Fancy feast. Should i try a different food. Does a anyone know a food for sensitive stomachs that would be ok for her diabetes? I am worried because she gets so distressed by the cerenia pills and otherwise vomits a lot. I tried capsules and they didn't work. Thank you very much.

Hi there,

Ondansetron is an alternative treatment for nausea. Maybe ask your vet whether this might work better for your little one than the Cerenia? It's a human medication so if your vet doesn't stock it you should be able to get a prescription filled at a regular pharmacy with a prescription from your vet.

In case you haven't yet come across it, there's a very helpful site called ibdkitties.net. Maybe there might be something there to help you. Also there is a great deal of very helpful information at the following link:

Nausea, Vomiting and Appetite Problems - Symptoms and Treatments

For kitties with digestive system issues, it can help to feed smaller, more frequent meals. At the simplest this helps reduce the likelihood of excessive build-up of stomach acid between meals. For times when you're not at home or during the night, a timed feeder can be an invaluable aid (e.g. Petsafe 5).

you could try putting the cerenia in an empty gel cap (size 4 or 5 are the smallest)... that way she doesn't taste it as much. I feed weruva.
